Rob wouldn't understand XO. There's no light draft beer, white powders, floozies, grins with SHEETS of teeth, bulging biceps that defy the laws of gravity, men with boobs, pouches and guns bigger than the pentagon.

Why would Rob Liefeld even care is my question, how would it affect him either way? Once a d1ckhead always a d1ckhead.

Exactly. Seems petty on his part to try and cast doubt on the numbers.MarrowMan wrote:Why would Rob Liefeld even care is my question, how would it affect him either way?

Considering this is a guy who just relaunched his studio's 90s books with pretty good success, following a similar "playbook" of modernizing with superior creative teams, this shouldn't baffle him in any way.
Meanwhile, next month I hear Rob is debuting a new member of Youngblood who is a 5th century Ostrogoth who is kidnapped by Scorpo-aliens and steals a high tech suit called Z-Y Guy-of-Fighting.

To be fair, I see what he is saying. It's the variants that are boosting the initial sales on issue #1. There's no denying that.

Name a recent #1 issue that was successful and has no variants.400yrs wrote:To be fair, I see what he is saying. It's the variants that are boosting the initial sales on issue #1. There's no denying that.

Manhattan projects #1 (there are variant's but of the 2nd and 3rd printings)greg wrote:Name a recent #1 issue that was successful and has no variants.400yrs wrote:To be fair, I see what he is saying. It's the variants that are boosting the initial sales on issue #1. There's no denying that.
My point is that there are some out there with no Variants.

Rob Liefeld complaining about variant covers boosting sales would be like Obama complaining about minority voters.400yrs wrote:To be fair, I see what he is saying. It's the variants that are boosting the initial sales on issue #1. There's no denying that.

Manhattan Projects #1 (1st print) sold 17,955 copies.MarrowMan wrote:Manhattan projects #1 (there are variant's but of the 2nd and 3rd printings)greg wrote:Name a recent #1 issue that was successful and has no variants.400yrs wrote:To be fair, I see what he is saying. I think it's safe to say that the X-O #1 Regular cover will beat it by itself. Is that not worth celebrating?

Re: Is Rob Liefeld calling BS on the Valiant sales numbers?
the more people who get X-O #1 in their hands, the better, IMO. I could care less if it had 1 or 1 000 000 000 000 Variant covers.greg wrote:Manhattan Projects #1 (1st print) sold 17,955 copies.MarrowMan wrote:Manhattan projects #1 (there are variant's but of the 2nd and 3rd printings)greg wrote:Name a recent #1 issue that was successful and has no variants.400yrs wrote:To be fair, I see what he is saying. I think it would've sold a lot regardless.

Saga. The C2E2 doesn't count because it wasn't a launch book.
On a smaller scale, many other Image #1s. And if we are talking about books with only one variant and not three, then alot more books.
Marvel and DC usually will do one variant cover unless it's one of their main books and they may do more than one variant, but not always. Dynamite comes up with lots of variants. 4 different covers is alot of different covers.
I'm not saying they are over-doing it like Dynamite does, but that I can see his point.
I bet if Warren sends him a copy of the book, he will read it and will say good things about it. Rob loves comics. He has lots of haters though.
