True. One only need to look at NM#98, Incredible Hulk #181, etc. though.

It all depends on the demand of the book. If the new series becomes popular and brings in increased demand, the book will go up in value. If the new series is unsuccessful then the book may drop in value? :twocents:

That's a lot of graded copies, half the total of the board population. I don't know how many people outside of this board care enough to pay the premium on graded 9.8s.

If this relaunch is successful, and that's looking pretty good to me, I expect many Valiant keys to visit the moon in price.

One of my only concerns with the relaunch is the speculation craze that helped kill the company the first go-around. I do think those early issues should be valued higher, because it is some of the best writing and balancing of an entire universe you can ever ask for. I saved all my early Valiants for that very reason - love of the content and characters.

But it could backfire again, and lead to a small group hoarding many copies, leaving the rest of the market wanting but unwilling to pay through the nose to enjoy the new Valiant Universe.

Second Printings are pretty common now and news travels way faster on hot books than before the internet. People should be able to at least read the stuff if they want.

I would usually agree with your thought. But tell that to all the folks paying big money now for The Walking Dead #1, 19, 53 and 61. How many people didn't know Michonne was a great character until recently when the book is now commanding $1,000 (+) and last year you could have picked up this book from 2005 for much less?

Okay - I'll admit. The Walking Dead is an extremely unique situation. But wow - what an example of where the internet didn't educate folks in advance how hot a property something was going to be.

UPDATE: And I just checked on the Walking Dead Weekly issue since this serves like a second print of TWD 19. Now those are bringing in $200-$400. Talk about a wild ride when it comes to Walking Dead sales figures.

I don't know if that's a long enough time frame, I would think at least a year or two, but we'll see....time will definitely tell. I wonder though if the relaunch is successful, I would think a lot of people would be interested in purchasing/hoarding/collecting/speculating those issues as well. We will see...those new harbinger covers do look awesome! I like them far better than the X-O covers.

I told him you guys are tracking his listing, so he did the price in your honor.

:-o

How he came up with that number, I just don't know.

Added to 1st post. That's 6 copies currently available for sale. We haven't had that many copies available at once for a while.

Might be a good time to buy one. Next week when a few get relisted might be better, though. With what is essentially a glut, at least for the moment, I wonder if prices will be dropping a bit here.

Most probably not for a little bit, as speculators are counting on a few of the pre-Unity Valiants to pop and want to get in now. What they fail to realize is where the prices were only 6 months ago.

Heck - I bought my Harbinger 1 raw off Ebay for $14 two years ago, sent it into CGC and it came back a 9.8 WP. You won't see that right now with all the excitement over high-grade raws.

Yes, if you go back and check many of the sales threads from 2 yrs ago the board was in general consensus regarding how depressed valiant prices across the board were. There is definitely an edge (like most markets), for astute individuals to come ahead...

This is definitely one of those rare times when fanatics over a "dead" universe can thumb their noses at everyone that dumped these books for pennies on the dollar, and treated them like total junk. I wish it happened more often. Let's hope the relaunch will go over as powerful as it is coming across right now.

Quick question. Is Valiant Entertainment the same folks that own Valiant? They seem to be blowing out a lot of Valiant back issues, so I wonder if we will see any Harbinger 1s from them.

As someone who has subbed over 100 copies of Harbinger 1 and never gotten a 9.8, stories like that make me want to projectile vomit.

You'd only turn around and sell it like that Archer & Armstrong 0 Gold. :poke:

I would have loved to have owned that book.

Well now that I paid a ton of cash for a 9.8, you better believe if I got one back in a sub I would sell it!

I don't recall your reference to an A&A 0 Gold. I think I've only ever sold one of those and sure wish I had kept it. The 9.8 in my set was a book I had from 1993.
