I am fluent in ancient Dacian. My PhD had a sole focus on Visigothian history; my thesis was on the etymological origins of Dacian vernacular, as contrasted to the more proper and widely accepted Common Germanic that permeated the Late Nordic Bronze Age.Elveen wrote:A little birdy told me that there is something very cool about that name. The Vine Baby is super interesting. One of my favorite parts of the new book. Also, very creepy, I love the panel where the Vine baby's voice changes right before mom comes in.comicsyte95 wrote:Cant wait to see why are the vine doing the plantings, and what will become of vine baby Avagis?
Avagis is the Visigoth term for "hostage-child".
Oh, wait. What I meant to say is that I listened to you on the OTV podcast!

I don't think it will all be a Vine plot, but I do think Valiant is going to work to tie the Vine in to more parts of the Valiant Universe than maybe the Spider-Aliens were.Dr. Solar wrote: You have to realize that MotA is still obsessing over classic Valiant, which has nothing to do with this
Since I know he is reading this post, hi Mike!
I hope that not everything in the Valiant Universe comes down to "it's part of the Vine plot". That would get pretty old and boring real fast, and would feel just a bit too contrived.

I think that belongs to the next scene where the Goths engage the Vine. Just a guess.

Things are not always as they seem...and (good) writers rarely put pen to paper without choosing their place and meaning...forward, to me, could be related to the future, Aric's eventual journey to the present day, or the forward progress of the Vine's plans on earth. Or sometimes a bear is just a bear.Blood of Heroes wrote:greg wrote:

Is it blasphemy to mention the Aric SUPERMAN panel?

Just finished reading issue 1 and it exceeded my expectations. This is how a relaunch of a character should be. I am looking forward to all Valiant has to offer.

That was the first thing I thought when I saw it. Specifically All-Star Superman. It looks a little Quitely to me. Again, probably not an exact copy, just made me think of that particular Superman.greg wrote:Not a specific Superman image... but a floating man with arms out, knee up, and a blowing red cape... classic.depluto wrote:Is that a Supes homage? In the original, were the spider aliens on colony ships?
Colony implies, to me, that they was to take over the planet and...well....colonize.
I don't recall the spider aliens wanting to do that. I think they just wanted food and such, but I could be remembering incorrectly.
But here, they are clearly indicating it is a colony ship, not just a "mother ship".

I after reading x-o again and looking through the FCBD Valiant book, I agree that it is Gilad with the scar on his face. Maybe he got the scar before becoming immortal or something effected his ability to heal completely.

Re: X-O #1 SPOILERS THREAD! Read the book then this thread!
Okay I read XO #1 and the FCBD issue, and now I have read through this thread to make more sense of it all.
Are we saying Avagis was Gilad's child? Is that just a wild speculation? There is nothing in the comics that I can see that tells us that the Avagis's mother was Gilad's wife or who the woman/child were except name. It couldn't be Aric's child since his wife was captured by the Romans and the caption for when the Vine aliens entered the camp clearly sad Visigoth camp.
Still it was good to see the Spider Aliens seem to have a bigger agenda than they did in the old days. I like the deeply rooted plot threads in comics, its what makes them fun.
Was there ever a Old Valiant story of Gilad fighting with the Visigoths? I did read the EW Yearbook yesterday where Gilad helped the Celts kill Romans and priests (ouch). So there is a precedence.
