Re: Are New Members former VH1 Fans or new VEI Fans?
I joined in March when the Summer of Valiant announcements started coming from VEI. I had lurked on the site for years but never checked out the boards until I was ready to discuss the new Valiant with other passionate Valiant fans.
So I am a fan of old school Valiant having been in my prime comic reading days in the 90s. Never read any Acclaim Valiant except a few issues of Quantum and Woody. Now a fervent reader and supporter of VEI.

I thought like Upper Canadia was the Yukon and Lower Canadia was french?
Poor Canadia. They could have had it all - English culture, American technology and French cuisine. Instead they get English cuisine, American culture and French technology.
I do listen to Robin Sparkles, though. She's Canadian.
Don't trust a country that eliminates pennies! Canadia, New Zealand, none of them!

Cheers! Glad to see new fans coming on board. Expect great things like characters with depth, a lot of gray areas (rather than black and white, good and bad characters), continuity between books, and creators that are committed to putting out great books month after month. Fingers crossed it'll stay that way for a long, long time!manga4life wrote:New VEI fan here, I've never read any of the old Valiant books and I really have no intention of doing so since I have a love for these characters in the VEI universe with new material coming out every month. I think it's cool that Valiant's fan base isn't just old Valiant fans and that they've built up a nice sized community of brand new fans to these characters, if it was just old fans hanging on I don't think they'd be doing nearly as well as they are.

I am not new to the VH1 but I will admit I am not as knowledgeable of the original valiant universe like most of you are. I was extremely happy to see them make a comeback. We are all new to VEI and I hope its a great ride. I was mad as hell when they went away and I did give acclaim a shot....*****I WILL ADMIT THAT I ENJOYED THE GARTH ENNIS SHADOWMAN***** I was a huge fan of his preacher run and I loved the hell out of those Ashley Wood covers.

That depends if you live in a city with good universities and colleges. I go to rural NC sometimes and holy hell they are coooountryyy (they talk slower and add sylables).FormerReader wrote: He's just poking fun at Canada. The lower half of the states do talk like hillbillies.
In Raleigh though, we are quite civilized. It helps we have Duke, UNC Chapel Hill (the oldest public University in the country), and NC State; all within 20 minutes of each other. There's a bunch of brilliant people in the area that stick around for the weather, landscape, and economic climate.

Re: Are New Members former VH1 Fans or new VEI Fans?
As an aside, my entire family hails from New York (but our accent is not very New Yawka). Anyway, about 6 years ago the wisdom of fellow NYers finally made us all flee: I moved to PA, almost everyone else ran away to NC.Carson wrote:That depends if you live in a city with good universities and colleges. The southern contingent now wonders: Why is it that whenever someone wants to portray a character as 'evil' or 'stupid' do the necessarily get a southern accent? It's a fair question. If New Yawkas are so smart, why do so many people flee at the first opportunity? I spent 90% of my life as a New Yawka, and things have never been better since I left.

Don't worry, Labradorian, they wouldn't poke fun if they didn't like us so much (at least that's what I tell myself as I'm crying my way to sleep tonight )

Old school VH1 fan, but was too broke to get them at that time. Had to read off of my friends' floppies. Now, with mid-life crisis coming up, I'm getting all the VH1 back plus the new shiet - and my mid-life Porsche. j/k.

FWIW, Rutgers University was chartered in 1766 (as Queens College, first degree granted in 1774) but the College of William and Mary was founded in 1693 (oldest current public university), although both were started/chartered as private colleges, both are now public research universities.

I mean, how's that Cup quest going? Keep it nice and polished for the teams in the 48. Lord knows Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto won't be winning soon.
