Eternal Warrior leather jacket ideas
Valiant Ones,
Being a true geek, I have long fantasized about owning a leather jacket that resembles Gil Abrams favorite coat (the original coat he wore throughout "Unity"). I KNOW that I am not the only one that has had the idea! All that I would need to do is add the shell holders to the left arm!
I have searched long and hard and I think I have finally found a jacket that might do the trick, even though it is a bit pricey. It is called the "Ronin" jacket and is made by "Roland Sands". It comes in 3 colors: Black, Brown and Smoke.
I have always believed that Gil's "old" coat is a dark grey NOT black. He also wears a black motorcycle style leather jacket later in the run and that weird blue jumpsuit thing with the whipsaw in the arm, but his original look has always been my favorite.
Any ideas/comments?

Heck yeah! Go for it. The spiked glove can't be far off though. I think a machinist could easily help you craft those spikes!

It's a good idea. I've thought about it off and on over the years. The trouble with leather jackets is that they're expensive. AND you're going to basically ruin it by putting a bunch of holes in one arm. If I were going to do it, I'd try and find something cheap at a second hand store.
The one you found does look the part. I agree that it shouldn't be black. The smoke looks good.
You must not have ever been around the punk rock scene...

Screw in spikes are readily available. http://studsandspikes.com/buy/spikes.htmlCarson wrote:Heck yeah! Go for it. The spiked glove can't be far off though. I think a machinist could easily help you craft those spikes!

That's exactly what I was going to say. There's a place about 45 minutes from here called Little Five Points, just about every store there seems to sell those screw in spikes.Blood of Heroes wrote:Screw in spikes are readily available. http://studsandspikes.com/buy/spikes.htmlCarson wrote:Heck yeah! I think finding the glove would be more difficult. That was a good choice in jacket though.

Yeah, I missed that scene. I did love system of a down for the first couple albums...

WOW - those spike links are MUCH appreciated, as well! It should make the glove a lot simpler to make!

The back of the glove may be a bit flimsy for a bunch of metal hanging off of it. You may want to reinforce it on the inside with a patch of heavier leather.
and don't try to take it on an airplane.

I would reinforce the glove, for sure. Looking over the gloves features carefully, we can clearly see 2 rows of spikes and 3 or 4 (depending on the artist), rows of small claws/spikes, along with 2 straps to cinch the wrist cuff. It doesn't look like TOO tough a project. The hardest part will be finding gloves with 2 straps! I've been googling for a few minutes and they aren't common at all.
As far as the jacket goes, based on price point alone, I am looking at some alternatives. I like the Mandarin Collar, here:
But LOVE the distreesed look of this:

Here's another variation of the shell holder sleeve...
It's a bit more practical than the one in your first post. That one looks like the shells are stitched on rather than being in a proper holder.
If you do one like the severed arm sleeve, it's not terribly hard to do, it's just very time consuming.

Re: Eternal Warrior leather jacket ideas
I like jacket #1 or #3.
Ive always thought about doing a jacket like this too
I wonder if you could be creative enough to make the shotgun shell holder detachable? Maybe snaps to hold it to the actual sleeve. Every 4 inches or so? Im not sure how people would react to shotgun shells. I mean, it LOOKS cool in the comics, but not sure about general public reaction.
What? No love for the actual Tiger Paw option??

Yes, the second example is much easier to duplicate than the stitched version, althought the stitched version is my favorite!
This is the reason I brought it up... to encourage the exchange of ideas. Quite a rarity on most forums I frequent.
Now, THIS is a great idea... and quite do-able! Thanks, Ian! This never crossed my mind!IanAlexavier wrote: I wonder if you could be creative enough to make the shotgun shell holder detachable? Maybe snaps to hold it to the actual sleeve. Every 4 inches or so?

No problem, brother! Ive thought about this one too.
So if you wanted to take it one step further you could MAKE a metal ribbon attachment as an optional accessory to add later on Although, I think he only used that in the blue jump suit.
When your doing the gloves you may want to figure out a way to reinforce the back where the 'sharps' are placed. Maybe start with over sided gloves and then use an aluminum piece on the inside of the glove to attach the 'sharps'. It would be great to find gloves that came with those 2 straps.. that way the glove would stay fairly secure for being over-sized?
Another thought is to make the 'sharps' piece detachable as well. That way you could use regular gloves and not have to worry about making changes internally to the glove. Maybe use Velcro to attach it?
