These are my reading copies of the 1991-1992 Solar Man of the Atom series. The center story and several of the covers were drawn by Barry Windsor Smith. Each issue had a two page spread, which combined to make one huge panel of the most important point of the story. The main story starts, in panel one, issue one, where the BWS story ends, which is the black cover of issue ten.
This was an interesting phase of BWS' career. He had done a number of smaller stories for Marvel, a Daredevil, 3 X-men, all involving the interaction between man and technology. The DD story used the Frank Miller villain from Captain America, who used a combination of drugs to be a better fighter (IIRC), and the X-men stories involved Forge, who was somewhat of a human/robot hybrid. Towards the end of his Marvel run he did the Weapon X hardcover, full length story of how Wolverine had the tech skeleton implanted, and then moved to Valiant for the Solar story, in which...ah, trust me, it brings the man/technology conflict to an ultimate conclusion. BWS showed the negative effects of technology on man in progressively worse consequences.
One thing the collected edition lacks is the context of the main story, in the 1991 Valiant continuity, which comes about directly from the events in the BWS run. At the time, Valiant did some interesting things to make their comics interactive. In this case, the main story kicks off the Valiant universe, then the story around the center pages seems unrelated, but the placement was key. The two page panel was the actual center two pages, so the two page spread was on one sheet of paper. The center spread in the last issue completes the huge panel, and shows the climactic event, which explains the other panels. The all-black wraparound cover of the last issue is significant storywise, finishing the story in issue 10 and leading to the first panel of the main story in issue 1.
But to say more would give away the surprise.

Thanks for someone else posting this. Not to be a *SQUEE* but I laughed so hard that someone would post so much on these boards just to sell a solar run.

I don't think BillD realizes these are not new releases. We already know how the story turns out.

Welcome Bill! You have to expect a little poking at you though since you are listing a series that came out 20 years ago. We appreciate the background on the books. Feel free to post more and you will find the people here to be very friendly.

Bill, usually the board members are friendly. Its just usually a flag when a member's first post is in the Buy / Sell / Trade section of the boards.

4) If you're just here to sell your stuff, be prepared to be
treated like a vacuum cleaner salesman crashing a family reunion.
Someone may actually be interested, but you would do better to join the family a while
BEFORE you start asking Uncle Buford and Aunt Betty for a loan.

So wait, what's the significance of the black cover?
Really though, this could be the start of someone's binding project.

Welcome to the board, Bill. We reserve the Buy/Sell/Trade category for board exclusive sales. The ebay stuff goes in Auction Central. No big deal since it can be easily moved, but just keep it mind for future sales.
