Yeah it is pretty short, but I think that is all there is. Hopefully somebody who doesn't read Valiant goes out to buy X-O after reading it.

Hypothetical question... given the number of posters and advertisements within the Valiant books at the time, at what point would you have wanted to know the word "Unity"?Heath wrote:Yes, you might suggest that. And I might suggest that spoilers be placed in the location created for them or at least fair warning be given. It's only decent.

"Planet Death" is the name of the upcoming Valiant event. Is just knowing the name a spoiler?

This isn't an advertisement within a Valiant book, now is it? I'm not complaining about advertisements in books. I'm complaining about a link in the "General Discussion" area revealing a major and specific story point with no warning whatsoever when a perfectly suitable "Spoiler" section exists just for those very things. I see a topic in the General Discussion area called "Valiant in the news!" I look at the link and it's not to CBR, Bleeding Cool, etc. It's CBS News. I'm expecting a fluff piece about the company's return from the dead and relaunch into the marketplace. Instead, the first words I read spoil a specific story point in an upcoming issue.
But if you really want to compare to "Unity," that title and the related advertising were all pretty vague. Pictures of all the Valiant characters gathered together with a vague word written above them. I wouldn't necessarily call that a spoiler. Had the story been called "Solar Defeats Mothergod In The Lost Land!" with people telling me months early how Kris is going to give birth to Magnus and Rai gets killed then yes I would have complained. Heck, even "Planet Death" is a vague enough title had not a MAJOR AND VERY SPECIFIC STORY POINT been spoiled.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Re: Valiant in the news!
Let me try being a Valiant fan the way Heath would prefer...
Yes! Let's make sure we talk about Valiant in the months leading up the the event...
If only we had any idea what we were getting excited about.
Valiant is RELEASING the press releases. Valiant is revealing what should be revealed and NOT revealing what they want kept secret.
If we're going to talk to anyone about Valiant events, we SHOULD be allowed to talk about what has been revealed by Valiant to the world.
If we had insider information, we SHOULD NOT talk about it... because THAT would be an ACTUAL spoiler.
Sounds like an event that should really get the fans fired up months in advance... really get the word out... really make an impact.Heath wrote:But if you really want to compare to "Unity," that title and the related advertising were all pretty vague. Yeah, I try to sympathize with people who don't want to read spoilers, but really, this thread was perfectly acceptable for the General Discussion area.
If we can't post news releases and articles there, what the hell good is it for?

Well everyone, sorry to stir the pot. I thought i was posting an article that was informative that everyone would be excited about. Not sure why a general news article released by valiant would be a spoiler or need a spoiler alert. I guess everyone should stay off the internet so they arent surprised or have their valiant future spoiled by the company releasing the books.

It's just a national news article i found on the INTERNET that did not have the words "spoiler alert" in front of it or in the link. All I thought I was doing by posting the link was scooping a story. Remember these are comic books. Don't get so worked up over these kinds of things. What I posted was not to ruin the comic book reading experience but to enhance it. BTW here is the link to the full article:Heath wrote:greg wrote:Hypothetical question... given the number of posters and advertisements within the Valiant books at the time, at what point would you have wanted to know the word "Unity"?Heath wrote:Yes, you might suggest that. And I might suggest that spoilers be placed in the location created for them or at least fair warning be given. Dont let em get to you. A few posters on here are still into reading their books the way they did in the 90s. Most of us are fine upstanding fellows who enjoy having as much information as we can get, short of major plot points, before we read the books.

Re: Valiant in the news! * SPOILERS - IT'S A TRAP! *
Whether it's a spoiler or not has nothing to with it being "insider" information or "released" information.
Personally, I think VEI is releasing way too many spoilers. There is a big difference between a tease and a spoiler, and VEI tends to spoil more than tease. So I avoid their press releases, I have un-liked them on Facebook, and I'm about to unsubscribe from the email newsletter because the information they are releasing is spoiling the books for me. (I also don't watch previews for TV shows I watch, I don't watch the extended trailers for movies I really care about seeing, etc.) I understand the marketing reasons behind what they're releasing. I'm not asking VEI to stop with the previews and press releases. Hell, I'm just asking for a little courtesy among friends and asking that discussion of particular plot points in books that have not yet been released take place in the spoiler section.
A spoiler, in our context here, is any information about a book that hasn't been released yet. We all have different spoiler threshold levels that we're OK with. My level is pretty low. Yours is obviously pretty high. Can't we find a way to get along? Isn't that the purpose of the spoiler section?A spoiler is any element of any summary or description of any piece of fiction that reveals any plot element which will give away the outcome of a dramatic episode within the work of fiction, or the conclusion of the entire work. It can also be used to refer to any piece of information regarding any part of a given media. Because enjoyment of fiction sometimes depends upon the dramatic tension and suspense which arises within it, the external revelation of such plot elements can "spoil" the enjoyment that some consumers of the narrative would otherwise have experienced.

Regardless of the official or worldwide coverage of the information purposefully released by Valiant, it's a ** SPOILER **.Heath wrote:I'm just asking for a little courtesy among friends and asking that discussion of particular plot points in books that have not yet been released take place in the spoiler section.
Then, when a book is released, we generally begin discussing it right away, the same day... with ** SPOILER ** notification about what we're reading.
At what point is a discussion about Valiant books allowable in Heath's view of the purpose for General Valiant Discussion?

Yes, I _am_ being a jackhole... because YOUR view of the world means that Valiant's view isn't important. You're OVERRIDING it and calling it "courtesy".
I call it stupid.
