The Boys
Holy crap, this title is insane! I realize I'm late to the party on this one, but it was recommended to me, and I went for it. WOW! Anyone else read this series? Love Darrick Robertson (New Warriors fan
), and wasn't familiar with Garth Ennis, but his plots and dialogue are top notch.
What an incredible look at what people would be like if they had powers and no one to stop them. Great theory behind the book, and a totally different look at "supes".

The shop also has the rest in trade so if i enjoy this ill be picking up the rest as well.

Do you want me to tell you? It all comes together, and you won't really have many questions I don't think. Im at around issue 50 right now. There has been a lull, but it really picks back up. You get origin stories, and some scenarios that I guarantee you don't see anywhere else in comics. Crazy stuff, worth reading all the way (so far!)jenkinsMachine wrote:Ha yeah i just picked up the first trade a comic shop that does graphic novels for 50% off it was less than 9 bucks.Bone-A-Fach-ee wrote:Holy crap, this title is insane! Stay with it, your questions will be answered. It's a great series. Dragged a few places in the middle, but picked up steam towards the end. Tied up all the loose ends and ended wonderfully.

Re: The Boys
I read like 4 or 5 issues last night. Couldn't put it down. Only 3 issues left. You can feel the tension, and I am going to be really sad when it's over. Great characters, every single one of The Boys. Even Homelander and once you get more into The Seven, are some greatly flawed characters that make for excellent reading.bigeyedfish wrote:jenkinsMachine wrote:yeah i just read the first graphic novel yeah so its some formula that give the boys their powers.. its crazy did homelander rape billy butchers wife? cause he said the baby had heat vision i think i seen homelander use heat vision i could be wrongBone-A-Fach-ee wrote:Excellent! I really have to say, that although I've been out of the mix for a while in the world of comics, this title feels unlike any other. So well thought out and put together. And the subject matter is like nothing I've seen anywhere else. I might have to read the whole thing again because it's just that damn good!

The main book keeps talking about Herogasm, so I'm dying to check it out. So many references to it. also, there's another side project, Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker. Looking forward to that too!xodacia81 wrote:The only thing I ever saw from The Boys was Herogasm and what I read was...just, my response was *SQUEE*!

Re: The Boys
I dropped this title. It's good but I had to cut back on some titles and this one was it. I allot myself $50 in back issues so I figure this series will eventually cost less than $2 an issue. I plan on finishing the series as back issues. Good series though.

I'd almost call this a "guilty" pleasure, for lack of a better term. It is a fascinating version of the superhero story that skews very dark and cynical and darn if it's not the first thing I choose to read whenever I get a new volume!

not what dc or marvel are doing throwing a gay superhero in there and saying there modern or relatable.

Re: The Boys
The work of Garth Ennis in general is something I find frustrating and The Boys is a good example of that. Really interesting take on superhero comics and no one writes a touching buddy scene like Ennis. He's written most of the few comics that have made me misty-eyed.
Thing is, he sometimes goes off the rails and writes like a thirteen-year-old boy. A bright one...but still. There were times I feel he could have used some editing.
To me, The Boys went back and forth between a good, dark parody of superhero comics and a bad, dark parody of superhero comics.
Ennis is one of those writers with noticeable quirks like Warren Ellis and Grant Morrison and after a while I just got a little fatigued.
The idea of an internal affairs for super heroes was interesting and should be explored further, like say by a resurrected company with a short but shining history of good comics.

hey i know im going off topic but your icon is from shadowman correct? was issue 3 like more of a nostalgic feeling/ accepting his fate as shadowman, was he seeing his dad? idk i dropped the comic after 3.. wasn't for me but i might pick it back up if i hear good things about the next two

Yep, that's Jaunty. Didn't see an icon of Spylocke so I went with the combination of voodoo which I think is interesting and monkeys which make me smile.
Shadowman hasn't been totally grabbing me either but Valiant has built up a lot of credit with me so I'm giving it another arc.
