Angela from Spawn heading to Marvel Universe?!?

I am a little bit shocked to see this;

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=44385" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Neil Gaiman has 50% ownership of Angela, the character he created in Spawn and he is taking her to Marvel Comics.

My mind is boggling with how this is even possible and why Marvel would even want to do this. Gaiman only owns half of Angela, wouldn't he need to get approval by the other 50% owner, Todd McFarlane?

And if she is now going to be in Marvel Universe doesn't that now make her a Marvel character?

Has anyone given a *SQUEE* about that character in the last 20 years?

Yeah, me :D

Since the ruling of the settlement I had hoped that she may return to Spawn.

My thoughts exactly. The headlines should say, "Basically unknown forgotten character to appear in horrible crossover event abortion." Then I might actually read the articles :lol:

The day before this announcement, Mile High was selling Spawn #9 for $2.60 - now I hear they have a price tag upwards of $60 on that book, which I have heard has over 300,000 copies printed.

Good luck, Chuckles! Go smoke some more of that weed that makes you so mile high that you would price that book just as high.

This is awesome. I love how bizarre and whacky this is.

I also like that Spawn #9 might now be a $20 book.

I don't see what Marvel would want with this character. I mean... they don't have any sort of real Heaven and Hell line so to speak, Mephisto hasn't appeared in a book in ten years or more. Maybe Gaiman should've taken this to Top Cow for their Witchblade family where the character could've been integrated nicely.

Oh wait. I've got it. Marvel will make the character some kind of Mutant hunter, Jim Lee style or something.

Why not a demon hunter? Are there no demons in the MU?

Hey, why not have her hook up with Dr. Strange???

Mephisto and his daughter are both in the current X-Factor storyline The Hell on Earth War starting in #250 and he was in the recent Ghost Rider series as well.

I'm almost certain that what this is really about is throwing tons of bones (and licensing fees) to Neil Gaiman, so that he will write more Marvel comics in the future.

Specifically, so that Neil Gaiman will finish writing Miracleman for Marvel. That would be a huge win for Marvel.

I see regular copies of this book at 72.50 on his site, with the newsstand variant at 265.00. The thing about Chuck... I'm not sure he's not the smartest comic book retailer in history. I always like to watch what he does, including this.

Pardons - I hold a grudge against Chuckles & Mile High. When I was 12 or 13, my mom bought a bunch of X-Men from MH, #s 108-138, and I caught #109 with a popped staple. Of course, all books were "VF-NM" back then, but a popped staple takes a book down to a 4.0 - either they didn't check over books like we do now, or they were "mile-high" from all the dope being smoked.

Top Cow is still under Image and the Image guys are still close to each other. I don't think Marc Silvestri would publish that character in his company where his friend, Todd MacFarlane, clearly wanted ownership of it.

+1 to THIS.

I would be very surprised if this didn't lead to an announcement that Marvel is reprinting Moore and Gaiman's runs on Miracleman.

I was shocked by the annoucement. I'm curious to see how the story plays out. I checked eBay to see some of the prices and many sellers have "Guardians of the Galaxy Movie" in the item description :? I love how a cover price comic can go up x10 in value just because of an annoucement. Many of them have $10.95 BIN and one auction is at $27.75. I looked at a recent 9.8 sale on eBay to see what it went for a few weeks ago - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spawn-9-CGC-9-8 ... 1c306fded2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

It looks like I better get my copies ready to go!

If you are planning on getting copies graded by CGC, better one-day them and hope they get through encapsulation quickly...

I have a 9.8 copy I acquired several years ago in an auction. It was a CGC 9.8 lot of the first 10 issues. I got them all at a pretty good price. I am thinking about throwing it up on eBay to see what I get for it. Personally, I don't think I would send any Spawn issues to CGC, with the exception of some of the rare variants. It wouldn't be worth paying for the pre-screening and grading.
