Covers are amazing. Love them and the looks. Not familiar with the team except Fowler, but I'm getting more excited about this.

Not what I was expecting, but I'll give it a shot.
Re: Quantum & Woody ARE BACK!
Likewise. From the covers it looks like they have missed the serious parts of the original stories. But they have managed well with everything so far so I have hope.FormerReader wrote:Not what I was expecting, but I'll give it a shot.

Not something I would have ever actively campaigned for, but I'll give it a try.

Re: Quantum & Woody ARE BACK!
Bizzare choice of creators.
An X-Men universe writer and MAD artist doing Priest and Bright's Quantum and Woody.
I will certainly buy the first issue, it better be great.

Most interesting is the discussion regarding Priest and Bright.
Looks like something IS in the pipeline with them and those 'pending' issues...

Re: Quantum & Woody ARE BACK!
Good interview - it somewhat puts my mind to ease and lets me give this title a chance.
My main concern with this title is how does it fit into the idea of this being a somewhat realistic portrayal of a superhero universe? I thought that was what separated Valiant from other universes? It's grounded somewhat even if it does have magical elements and pseudo science
A lot of people got up in arms about the outfit that Dr. Mirage had on ... but at least that outfit can be explained by the fact that it's part of a TV show and evidently there is some greater function to it's design. It's also not head to toe spandex like Quantum's outfit.
I never read the comics but I do think the characters and their origin and the tone and comedic elements of the story seems pretty cool ... but i'm worried about how it fits into this universe.
But like i said - the interview eased my mind a bit - and this issue was addressed a bit

I do like this answer a lot. One thing that i do think is missing from the 5 current titles is a connection to normal everyday people and way of life. Matt Murdock is more then just Daredevil - his friends and personal life and career as a lawyer is integral to the title. I think Valiant needs to have some important characters that are just normal people living their normal life where superhero's or black magic or aliens are not the center of their universe. One of the strengths of the Valiant relaunch titles is their ability to stand alone while still being a clear part of a greater whole. For something like "Quantum and Woody," which has a somewhat disparate tone, how have you worked to make sure that it still works within the framework of the Valiant Universe?
Asmus: I wanted to make sure the story's set entirely in the "real world." All of the Valiant Universe as it pans out is really grounded. You can truly see it's not some obtuse, inaccessible fantasy world. It feels very textured and grounded in a way similar to our world. That's definitely the setting things spring out from. I just have an opportunity for our characters and through their powers and their own idiosyncratic flaws, they really agitate things into the crazier direction. You can see from the bystanders, the civilians, the cops and everyone they interact with that we are still firmly planted in the same universe as all those other people. It really is the idiocy of these two and where they take things that send us careening down more comedic paths.

RE: Quantum's costume...He wanted to be a superhero, so he dressed like one. Kinda like Solar modeled himself after a comic book hero. It's not much different from the new Shadowman costume which is taken from Jacks subconscious idea of what a superhero should look like.

I agree. There seems to be a consistency about that, that has crossed over from VH1 to the NVU

Link Above has preview with dialog.^
I'm def. on the fence about this, was initially ecstatic from the first announcement but once I seen they have been slightly altered and not written by Priest & Bright It became suddenly not nearly as exciting. That said I read VEI is working with Priest on releasing the unpublished original issues that are in various stages of completion. To me it even hinted that once Q&W have hit the floor running Priest/Bright (?) may return to the main line but that is just speculation from my vantage point. I really look forward to getting my hands on those original unpublished issues along with the reworked unfinished scripts etc. That is the REAL highlight for me so far from this new! That said, i'll def give this new version a fair shot. Just seems unnecessary to change anything about particularly this property...we'll have to wait n see how it works out!
PS havent been around for a min, i'm back and juiced as ever for Valiant, I need to go get X-O 11 & Harby 10 other than that im caught up!

I like the look of the characters and that is a good start. I will grab the first arc and see what happens from there

Re: Quantum & Woody ARE BACK!
Jordie Bellaire is pretty much the hottest colourist in the biz right now. She's done colours on Manhattan Projects, Nowhere Men, Mara, Comeback, Defenders, John Carter, and loads more. Her work has been in a lot of Image books lately, and is a major "Get" for Valiant, even more so perhaps than James Asmus and Tom Fowler. I hope she's working on more books for Valiant than just Q & W.BugsySig wrote: Not familiar with the team except Fowler, but I'm getting more excited about this.

I do like these covers including the updated logo - a nice clean look to it.
and the updated character designs are really nice. I'm glad they ditched the cape for Quantum.

Re: Quantum & Woody ARE BACK!
Good to know. First thing I noticed was how clean the art looked and still managed to pop. I think VEI has had some issues with Harby and XO's coloring at times, so bringing in new talent is great.Xtianhardy wrote:Jordie Bellaire is pretty much the hottest colourist in the biz right now. Re: Quantum & Woody ARE BACK!
What I'd consider if I was Valiant: 3 Valiant Masters volumes of the original series, each shrinkwrapped with a coupon, the set of which could be redeemed for volume 4 of all-new material. If you shrink-wrap them and add serial numbers, you could return the coupons with the volume of new material so collectors could still have a set of everything.kevinbastos wrote:Most interesting is the discussion regarding Priest and Bright.
