 I'll be oredering online meeself (even though I work in books, that AMZ always cheaper). I own 'em all already, and I'm still shelling out the cash. The Ninjak release was great, nothing new, but great. One book reading and I don't have to bind it. Go get it, NOW! 8-)

I have mine on order! I enjoyed the Ninjak and Bloodshot hardcovers.
Even without a new story the introduction, art scans, quality trade dress makes it worth it to me.
I enjoy rereading the stories and they look real nice on the shelf.

Do you think that VEI will be releasing a Unity or Chaos Effect Hardcover? It doesn't seem too likely since the Unity issues are in this Hardcover (which is a shame because they're a little out of place)

And I agree with the rest of the board, the new stories are a must otherwise I could just get the issues at my comic shop/on comixology for cheaper

So what exactly is the difference between these 'remasters' or whatever they are and the originals?

Someone here mentioned 'new colouring', so are the pages physically bigger to make the art bigger, is the colouring getting redone, are the lines getting sharpened up, etc? Anyone know?

Yea, I really enjoyed the remastered Hardcovers but these new ones i'm not really into. If they put out a Quantum & Woody one with glossy paper and alot of bonus material, i'd buy it, otherwise not so much unless its gotta new story, then id be tempted. Shadowman99 the first 3 VEI HC's were remastered, these just look like reprints of the originals on not the best paper stock.

The paper stock is good, just not glossy. It's more like how the originals were actually printed, which I like and think works better with the in-house coloring style that was used. It also smells like a comic should...is that wierd? That sounds wierd :hm:

If that's weird, I don't want to be...unweird. I love the smell of comics and books. Also, I've never liked glossy paper. It just feels wrong and always ends up smudging on me because I have sweaty hands. Matte paper feels natural and takes ink really well, making for a better reading experience.

Also guilty of being a member... facepalm

Is the coloring in the Masters just like the original?

I was really disappointed with the Harbinger '08 TPB (just picked it up), the colors and line work were such a step down from the original VALIANT collection. Maybe its just me, but the computer coloring was so distracting.

Pretty sure it's the same coloring as the original. Maybe a few spots have been cleaned up where necessary, but that's it.

Love the matte paper and also have to touch comics very little because I have greasy/sweaty hands as well.

Sweaty hands, eh?

Okay, ta. I think that it'll be nice to see proper reprints of the originals as they were. I wasn't too sure about this idea of them being recoloured at least.

I agree with Burrito Boy, I always like matte paper best because I think that the colours take to it better. But I don't have sweaty hands, so I couldn't care less about all that :p

That was one of my biggest concerns/criticisms of the HC's I pointed out on Amazon, especially with the Ninjak HC, since Quesada's work was on a black background and made it very hard to discern details. Details, I might add I remember being able to see on the original books just fine, so maybe glossy isn't the answer, but a higher grade of paper appropiate to the work would be nice (at least they aren't going so cheap like the Marvel comics Marvelman HC's those things are printed on one-off of tissue paper, and the price they were asking for B&W reprints on that paper was ridiculous.

See...I can't really agree with that, the paper quality needs to best serve the artwork, and in neither case it does, even Perlin's work looks dull compared to the original books, and if I'm not mistaken why there needed to be a quality drop from the original HC's, especially since they cost the same amount to buy. (and luckily I managed to get those 3, before they went out of print and prices esentially doubled) But I don't like to see quality drop, in favor of saving a few bucks. Even though I love my Carl Barks library books from fantagraphics, I wished they were a bit more high quality like my oversized collectors edition, but then again that was a $150.00 book originally.

And no comment on the smell, that's just too weird for me. :P

So back to the waiting game for the Shadowman Masters HC.....I just really want to read the new stuff from Bob Hall, that's why I'm so interested in that book.

oh they'd order it if I asked but I follow a see it buy it system with trades. Since I buy mainly trades my list of wants rotates so often that I just buy different trades when one I'm looking for isn't there. When I get more of my finances in order, I've got a better paying job now and have more money to burn, I'll probably just order them online I just try to look for it at stores to support local businesses and its on the way to work.

So if they anticipate what you want and already have it, then you'll buy it from them, but you won't order it through them, and you will order it online. Sorry, that's not really supporting local businesses.
