Should VEI use more of the Old Valiant ideas?
With the teasing of a Unity crossover, and the introduction of 0 issues and gold issue, it appears that VEI is taking a page from the Valiant (old guard) playbook. This is also true with their fan friendliness and rewarding fan promotional efforts.
Are there other things that old Valiant did that you would like to see? When I was thinking of concepts/promotions/ideas that I associate with old Valiant, I came up with a few.
Any other ideas/innovations/concepts that you think as associated with old Valiant, and should new Valiant incorporate them?
Chris

Hell, if you want *old* ideas re-used why don't they just re-print all the old comics in some sort of remastered, TPB editions and be done with it?!

I want to say that this was the plan at some point back in the day.....
Reprint the single issue with a different cover. I think I remember something like that back in the 'hay......
Actually...... maybe I'm not sure.... I can't for sure remember....

I always thought the beers where a great promotion.
Editorially I would love to see them return to a bit more real world feel. I'm not hating, just that I think the early original runs had a uniqueness to them that hasn't translated as well as I had hoped. Primarily this is aimed at A&A. This run seems less realistic for some reason. I would also love for them to have a few 4001 based books again. While I admit preferring the current timeline, it was the combination of both and how they were connected that really intrigued me.

Re: Should VEI use more of the Old Valiant ideas?
I'd love to see a chromium cover on some big anniversary issue like XO #25. If its just something special like that, I think it would work well.
I'm not sure a free book beyond FCBD or a Summer a preview is realistic, but a $1 book could be almost as good. Deathmatch #1 was only $1 and sold a TON of copies. Probably got a lot of readers who normally wouldn't have given the book a shot to take a look as well. Would love to see that for Unity #0/1 or a future Rai #0.
No VALIANT VISION, please. No thank you.

I understand that covers are solicited early, etc., but I REALLY liked when the cover art was also a scene from the book.

A little embossed cover action like chromium covers or the awesome Solar #10 (understated simplicity!) would be great. GOLD Chromium anyone?

No chromium please, I pay enough for comics as is

Re: Should VEI use more of the Old Valiant ideas?
I like new ideas - The 8-bit game that mirrors Harbinger Wars is brilliant way to cross market your brand and create something really exciting, a treat for fans and that's in the moment. You need ideas that take advantage of the new technology and trends that are happening now. QR talking cover - another Brilliant idea.
The marketing has been really great so far I think - although my wallet can live without so many variant's, I think they take advantage of fans lack of will power.
I'd rather them not go down the road of chromium, embossed covers - its not really anything that excites me and its the first thing Valiant haterz say when dissing the universe. I'd rather them continue to spend the money on getting great artists like Johnson, Mack, Bullock to do special covers.
Although if you wanted to update the idea of valiant vision - i think digital comics is the way to go for that. A lot of untapped potential to do some crazy fun stuff digitally, imo.

The only idea VEI should keep from Voyager is the idea to put out the most interesting and innovative line of comics on the stands.

You're gonna freak out LCS owners with chromium covers. Many of them still blame the 90s comic book crash on all the 'collectible' novelties that Valiant employed back then.
Not saying I would mind them myself, just that it would reek of 1995.

My LCS only ordered one copy of the Invincible 100 chromium. It's still there. $10 bucks is outrageous.jmatt wrote:You're gonna freak out LCS owners with chromium covers. Many of them still blame the 90s comic book crash on all the 'collectible' novelties that Valiant employed back then.

Because immortal brothers, armalite-toting men in nun costumes, a goddess-wife, a pet dinosaur has a real world feel.orbitalshift wrote:Editorially I would love to see them return to a bit more real world feel. +1000% Chromium books would be *SQUEE* ridiculous, the company would lose a lot of respect in my eyes if they went down that path.jmatt wrote:You're gonna freak out LCS owners with chromium covers. Re: Should VEI use more of the Old Valiant ideas?
How about if they were sold as official website exclusives? I think that should please everyone. New Chromium sounds good to me as long as they don't retail for ridiculous prices maybe 5 bucks each or 10 if they are going to be low print collectibles like Gold books and you know they'd be giving a bunch out as well if they went this rout. A good way to do contests n stuff.GGSAE wrote:+1000% Chromium books would be *SQUEE* ridiculous, the company would lose a lot of respect in my eyes if they went down that path.jmatt wrote:You're gonna freak out LCS owners with chromium covers. Re: Should VEI use more of the Old Valiant ideas?
I like the idea of chromium covers. Like 'em or hate 'em, they've clearly made an impression
I don't know if they'd have to bump the price due to production costs or if retailers would bump it up of their own volition, but I'm with Bugsy on this one.
I think that on certain anniversary issues, like #50, #100, etc it'd be great if the chromium was just the standard cover. Have no other variant covers for that single issue and no non-chromium version either, just have the regular issue be chromium. I'd really like it a lot if it was done that way because then it's not like a premium product, it's just more like a celebration with a regular product: "Hey, here's issue #50, let's party with a chrome cover!"
But like bygranddesign says, new ideas are always good too. Who here hasn't enjoyed the anticipation of the 8-bit game and QR covers? So whilst it's good to re-use certain old ideas to maintain the Valiant 'traditions', you gotta keep things new and fresh too, and I think Valiant have had some great ideas so far

Re: Should VEI use more of the Old Valiant ideas?
If they wanted to use nothing but old ideas than they would've relaunched the books as continuations, but I think fresh idea's and characters are the way to go and from what I can tell they've used some older ideas already. Keep the use of older ideas minimal and come up with some great ideas that can be brought to light in the modern day, you know....original stuff, it's the best possible solution in my eyes.

I was not thinking so much story ideas, but rather marketing/promotion/distribution ideas. Like gold books, fan friendly, 0 issues,.
Possibly core concepts of the Valiant Universe (death is permanent).
