Great interview and good art. Hirsine's style isn't my favorite, but it should work well with Eternal Warrior at least. Glad to see Gilad getting his own book finally.

So we have the following rolling out for the 'Summer' of Valiant:

May: One Dollar Debuts, Harbinger Wars #2, Shadowman #0, Archer & Armstrong #0
June: Harbinger Wars #3
July: Quantum & Woody #1, Harbinger Wars #4
August: Bloodshot #0
September: Bloodshot and HARDcorps #14, Eternal Warrior #1.

And then the X-O arc leading into Unity for the winter... Awesome!

That's one for the true season's argument! :high-five:

And it gives me hope for RAI in "Spring 2013"...which we all now know continues well into June. :thumb:

"Who are the other players involved in the series? Greg, I heard you might have plans for the new Geomancer.

Pak: All that will be revealed in due time. As we begin, we're going to concentrate on Gilad and these kids of his. Fairly soon, we've got some new villains that are going to surface and we're going to discover -- Gilad serves the Earth. He's the fist and the steel, he is the warrior for the Earth. We're going to discover fairly quickly that there are other people serving other entities. There's the House of the Earth, there are other Houses in the Valiant Universe and there are other Swords that serve those houses. Things are going to get pretty crazy and pretty dangerous pretty quickly.

Simons: One of the things that I really love about this particular story is that we know who the Geomancer is, but we've never really understood what it means to be the Speaker of the Earth. We've never really understood what it means to be the Fist and the Steel beyond serving the Speaker of the Earth. What does it mean to be the Speaker of the Earth? What does that role mean within the universe? Beyond just touching on the most superficial level of what that means, we're really delving in deeper to really build the mythology, and Greg's come up with some pretty awesome stuff."
This makes me think that VEI universe is going to be more spiritually/mystically based than the VH1 universe which was more science based. I like that decision, if true.

Sweet. Looking forward to this book... I also like the 'tweak' to the outfit - a little less superhero jumpsuit, a little more world-traveller.

Stunning covers! Gah!!

This is the announcement i have been waiting for since VEI first said they were going to relaunch the universe!!!!

One thing i will say is that i love he Bermejo character design. IMHO it is much more suitable to an immortal warrior than the superhero costume he had in A&A. I am hoping and praying that VEI goes with this look from here on out.

Also love that Crain cover!

I thought the homage cover to EW #4 was a good idea, but IMHO Zircher didn't pull it off. Not a dis to him as i think he is an extremely talented artist, but Cowan is a tough act to follow.

Totally agree. Zircher's cover is cool (and drawn perfectly per usual), but I think it suffers from being too similar to the original.

I completely agree, I love his new look. He just looked silly in A&A with that onesie pajama getup. Granted, A&A IS silly and fun.

This coming from a new Valiant fan (Pulling everything Valiant comes out with, just take my money). I jumped onto comics with the new 52 and im thinking about dropping DC books all-together for anything Valiant does.

one question, WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE THINGS ALONG EW's ARMS? Those weird looking metal cylindrical objects in a row going from shoulder to wrist. do they have a use? I mean WTF man

They are explosive shells, I believe.

Explosive shells? really!? first, if those are explosive shells, why does he have them while in time periods before gunpowder. second, why are they on his arm where they can get damaged and potentially explode on his arm....

Also, I wanted to try this...... piano recital

I really hope the look with the axe is his new look. I really never liked the jumpsuit thing even in the old series. The hooded look, just looks more bad *SQUEE*! Even though it does look a little more like something that would be from a middle ages time period. Than a current time period. Although his jumpsuit looks like something from the 80's so who knows?

In the second cover he looks like an executioner mixed with the grim reaper. Both covers look good and i hope they have a past tale to go with the stories.

I'm only going off of what he said in A&A #8 when they go to open the bunker in Greenland. And I'm pretty sure the Last Enemy took advantage of exactly what you said and blew them up

As for previous time periods :? They could be canisters of gun powder, shotgun shells, various poisons, acids or other items with useful weapons applications...Or maybe they just look cool?

Without any comics in front of me for reference, my impression of the arm decoration is that it changes throughout Gilad's life - I think if you look at some art of him in a time period that predates gunpowder, the decorative pattern remains similar, but will be made up of plates, or fur etc. instead of the bullets.

In the original the left arm style was almost entirely decorational, as an homage to his tribal armor when he was "Gilad the One." The only time it was ever functional was when they gave him the blue onesie and the arm decoration hd the ability to turn in to a metal whip. Like the outfit he had in A&A it was way to superhero-ish and he went back to the simpler leather jacket look after 10 issues or so.

FWIW i have nothing against superheroes, but the style doesn't really suit Gilad, the Eternal Warrior. It always comes off looking silly.

Gilly has always had the decorations on the arm since EW #1. That's his signature! It's always not a bad idea to carry extra shells incase a terminator or two show up.

Yeah, I can't ever remember him doing anything with the "shells" along his arm. The only time we saw him use anything from the arm was when he teamed up with Bloodshot to take on a drug cartel in South America. As I recall, he referred to it as "thirty feet of retractable steel" and the shell look was replaced with a small casing that ran down the length of his arm.

I definitely was/am not a fan of this look for Gilad. Silly & cheesy, all rolled into one. I like the concept of the sleeve as a decoration, a representation of & a means to stay connected with the era he is living in. No need for any functionality, IMO, its just a cool facet of his character.
