Mmm, I'm not interested in a compromise, to be honest. If you wanted to bid $400 or something, it should have been done by the stroke of 9pm.Aram wrote:I think I have a fair compromise for everyone involved, I'll pm you the details.
You're trying to win with the lowest bid, so was I. I don't think it's crazy to say that I just won outright. When an Ebay auction ends at 8:17pm, the bidding ends the instant 8:16 is in the past.
I'm not going to comment on the matter any further until Joe makes his decision.

We can either split the lot in half or let Greg decide who won. You both have valid arguments and dammit,I don't want anyone upset!

Jmatt Has said that he does not want to split, so I think Gregs opinion would be best if he's willing to weigh in. As always it's your call.
Thanks,

I propose that the books go to me. I'll then ask the books with whom they truly belong. If they say they want to stay with me, so be it.

I'm mystified as to how it can be perceived that I did not win this auction. Even your initial reaction was that I was the highest bidder before the clock struck 9pm.Knob Row wrote:We can either split the lot in half or let Greg decide who won. What is Aram's valid argument? That he's disappointed he was outbid and therefore should have half of the auction as a consolation prize? What kind of auction is that?
Aram put in a last second bid, too, mine just happened to be higher; his last bid is timestamped 8:59. Mine came in after that and before 9pm and was the largest dollar offer. By definition, that's the winning bid.
Come on guys, I know Aram wants this, but I won. If he wanted to chase off all other bidders he should have offered Joe $400. But he didn't, because like me, he wanted it for the least amount of money possible.
If at the last second he entered a bid of $250, could I stand here and argue that if I had only known he was going to bid that, I would have bid more, and so this is entirely unfair?
If Joe is unwilling to make a call on this, then yes, the only other option is to let Greg decide (and I'm sure he wants no part of this).

Your last bid is timestamped 8:59, about thirty seconds before the auction ended. How is it that your last second bid isn't sniping but mine is?Aram wrote:I mean no offense to anyone, I'm just rather upset over this because honestly my view is that sniping in the auctions here is not something in the spirit of this community

Since you posted another response, I just want to make my and Ramses case clear and I think my recent pm response to a board member offering to sell me a signed CEAR sums up everything for us, so here it is;
My response of $5 over any bidder was never to you it was a response to my topping nycjadie and challenging anyone else. I was already typing that when I saw you posted a raise. I immediately clicked send and started typing a new post to clarify that I was bidding $5 more than you at $240.32. You did not follow up with a counter raise. In our opinion that was the end. Only automated auctions go by the second, and they let you put in a max bid. It does not instantly enter your max bid, it tops the other bids as they are bid, just like an auction in person.
My arrangement with Ramses had our top bid as $300. If you had followed up and posted that you were willing to pay more or were willing to work with other members by splitting this up, we would not be having this conversation.
[/quote]Aram wrote:Nope no trouble, I don't even need one. I offered to split up the lot with the CEARS going to JMatt and Ramses and I would pay a large chunk for just the signed alphas.
My interest was never in the CEARs it was in the alphas and helping a fellow board member get a CEAR. The reason it has spiraled is because of the sheer principle on the matter.
I invested heavily into this endeavor. Literally Hours of watching, bidding, pms to other board members to ensure that we won this and that it went smoothly. I didn't play from the beginning. As soon as I saw the post, I said I'm going to make a statement and take the bids from $30 to $150, and I did. As soon as it was raised, I was there raising. When it was raised again 3 minutes to the end I topped it again immediately at the 1 minute mark, and then was typing that I would top anyone by $5 when..
JMatt comes at the last seconds of the minute with no interest or bids shown before and "Snipes" it with literally seconds left, which I instantly follow up with raising it $5 over anyones top bid at the same moment which is literally seconds later. In fact I was even able to send another pm clarifying on the record that my bid was $240.32, $5 over JMatt before the 9:00 minute was up.
He does not offer to raise any higher, merely says, too bad, I'm the winner and I'm getting them all. That is not right.

Re: 2 X CEAR plus 10 signed. Auction ends 8/23 at 9 PM
I've been asked to weigh in on this situation.
I'm taking a "just the facts" approach.
The auction ended at 9:00PM Eastern time.
That means 9:00PM and zero seconds was the end of the auction.
A bid at 8:59 and 59 seconds would be in time to win the auction, and a bid at 9:00 and any portion of one second would be too late.
There's a chance that the board is rounding the timestamp or that a bid came in at exactly 9:00, so I checked the database.
Here are the posts with timestamps according to the database (Eastern time):
Aram - $210 bid - 8:59 and 37 seconds
JMatt - $235.52 bid - 8:59 and 46 seconds
Aram - $5 more bid - 9:00 and 14 seconds
Aram - $240.52 bid - 9:00 and 44 seconds
The last bid before 9:00pm was JMatt - $235.52 bid - 8:59 and 46 seconds

Jmatt, clearly won. But I don't know what the big deal is, the prices paid were greater than what they typically go for raw. No offense meant to the seller, I'm just making a historical observation.
It's not like these guys were bidding on two CEARS for $50.
And I'll tell you what Aram, I have a CEAR which is a guaranteed 9.8 that I'm about to send off to CGC (that I've been meaning to do for a long time). And after it comes back from CGC I'll give you priority of bid so that if anyone else offers the same amount, the tie will go to you.

My plan is slab the CEARS, sell one and some of the sig books on Ebay, recoup my costs and have a slabbed CEAR at no cost (assuming that goes to plan). The slabbed CEARs are going for anywhere between $200 and $350 on Ebay, I think it stands to reason I'll be able to make back the $235.
And finally own a CEAR!
