Next show for Elveen's Comics- The C4
So I'l be setting up at a new show called the Central Coast Comic Con (Ventrua Comic Con) http://www.venturacomiccon.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was not sure I was going to do this con when I was first told about it. Setting up at a new con..... might be sketchy. But it was a good place on the calendar and there are 2 good / successful comic shops in Ventura and west LA is not to far away, so..... I'll be there.
I do have high hopes as I have heard some peeps talking about it.....
If nothing else I get to spend 2 days with Doc, and that is always great. I'm hoping we can record a rambling OTV like the drive home from Ariz show.

I think California is due a renaming to Comicfornia. How many cons can one area have? Don't you guys get tired of them? The magic has to wear off at some point.
It's not like there is a dearth of comic shops there either. I'm pretty sure California accounts for at least 75% of the world's comic marketshare.

The crazy thing is that just about every show I've done (10 so far since last Nov.) the peeps in charge have said that the numbers were bigger than they expected. It seems to me that out here on the west coast the market is blowing up and expanding. The Stockton show was huge, the Long beach 1 day is expanding to a 2 next year (due to size this year) both Ariz shows were much bigger than the year before. Wondercon was MUCH bigger than the year previous.
I know of at least 5 new shops that sprung up in the last little bit, one is owned by a good buddy of mine and he says that just after a few months they are doing real well.
Just to give you an idea of the market right now.... I have 5 more shows I'm doing in 2013 and nothing in Dec.

There are a lot of comic shops out here. It's a bit surprising. There are a lot of small conventions, but no one big show, though it looks like WonderCon is trying to make itself LA's big show of the year. They might be succeeding too.
This should be a fun show. My home town! It is right across from Surfer's Point, where I used to go take out my long board during the summer when I was home from college.
I have no idea if this is a show where we will have to hustle to make a dollar, or if we will just be racing to keep up.

What I know is..... we will be ready for both.

Re: Next show for Elveen's Comics- The C4
So the day before the show and I'll be getting my van in a few hours.
I'm pretty excited for the show. I really have no idea what to expect. I know the organizers have done a god job advertising: a billboard on the freeway, local radio and TV commercials.
What I'm hoping happens is, #1) the peeps from West LA make the hour-ish (give or take 15 min) drive to Ventura and the peeps from Santa Barbara make the 50 min drive south. If that happens, then I think it will be a great show.
But regardless, I'm stoked to spend time with Doc, and hopefully we can do some recording.

Coming tomorrow with the wife and kid. It's kid's day at the Con, so hopefully I can get some sketch hustling in! I'll be sporting a Valiant T-shirt, so come say hello! Elveen, I'll drop by your booth for sure. Chris Kay, hope to see you there too! Doc, see ya tomorrow!

Got some sketches, but other than that, this "con" was a bust. Most of the advertised creators were not even there. Maybe they were there on Saturday? But not today. Major bummer.
The best adjective that described the day, unfortunately was "sad". I know this was their first year doing it, but I can't see coming back to this con again.
Great seeing Doc, Elveen and Chris Kay.
Looking forward to another REAL con, such as Long Beach. Hopefully Valiant is there again?

Eleven, I have been on and off for a bit.
Did you get a new van? I recall you talking about it when just starting.
Or is that the 'van' you mention? In the above post?

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Like Bone-A-Fach-ee said, this con was a letdown. Lots of people advertised for Sunday were not there. The convention space itself was pretty small and it was ridiculously overpriced for what it was. My brother and I got discount tickets of $15 (door charge for Sunday was $30) and even $15 that was overpriced. Got 3 sketches to get my Marvel sketchbook started, and picked up a trade. Not a lot of comic vendors. I'd be surprised if this show comes back next year.
Very nice to see Bone-a, Dr Solar and Elveen and chat with them for a while. Good guys, all of them.

Black Science. Lazarus. Birthright. Saga. Manifest Destiny. Deadly Class.

I could not believe the tix were $30 at the door.
Totally lame that some dudes were not there on Sun.
