New VALIANT Jungle Hero
With XO replacing Solar and Rai soon to replace Magnus. Should VALIANT create a new jungle hero set in the Faraway, maybe an African hero this time?

Not sure X-o arguably does replace Solar, nor Rai replaces Magnus - each is their own thing from VH1,a nd thus far X-O is still its own thing in the VEI era.Ras the future fan wrote:With XO replacing Solar and Rai soon to replace Magnus. That said, a hero emerging from the Faraway could be very cool.

Doesn't have to be a Turok-alike - anything/anyone could be in there (like Amelia Earhart for example

Does Valiant still have the Joshua Fireseed rights? I'm thinking that they should change his race or even better his gender, so it wouldn't look too blatant.KXXX wrote:We should be able to have Joshua Fireseed, Large Reptile Tracker.

Re: New VALIANT Jungle Hero
I *believe* that certain aspects of the Valiant/GK properties are okay to use and that this is one of them. I may not have a great understanding of it all, but Dynamite's re-launch of Solar couldn't include a Geomancer or Erica Pierce. Their Magnus can't have a Tekla or a Malev war or an Isaac (not that they would really want one).

Valiant has a lot on their plate already and a lot of characters they have yet to develop but this could be an interesting addition to their stable.
Just make sure that Dysart is writing it. Unknown Soldier!

Re: New VALIANT Jungle Hero
I don't know that "Dinosaur Hunter" was ever part of the title pre-Valiant, so that part might not be restricted. But I doubt that VEI wants to test the waters legally right now. It could be very expensive to establish the extent of their rights to some of the concepts associated with the Gold Key characters.KXXX wrote:We should be able to have Joshua Fireseed, Large Reptile Tracker.

Re: New VALIANT Jungle Hero
Hmm; what if VALIANT re-purposed an old name with a new concept? They kind of did so for Dr. Mirage, so there could be opportunities. What if a mysterious Visitor were to emerge from somewhere like the Faraway (although admittedly quite far removed from the OP's suggestion - sorry for digressing!); remember his alien looking fingers - well the Faraway has had those.Chiclo wrote:You know, I want to say no but I kind of like this idea.Ras the future fan wrote:With XO replacing Solar and Rai soon to replace Magnus. Bionasaurs roaming the earth in 4001 would be interesting

Volo: Dino-puncher!
Honestly, I consider Aric the replacement for Turok. I always thought the two were a bit redundant as men-out-of-time the first time around. I suppose Mary-Maria as defender of the Faraway would be cool, though.
Magnus, as the last defender of humanity in 4001, can easily be replaced by Gilad and/or Rai...I like the concept someone proposed that Rai is the defender of the Sentient Cities, while Gilad is the defender of Humanity/the Earth in 4001.
As for Solar, I think we will eventually see Erica Pierce fill that role. I also think Sting has potential for a similar role and has already been prophesized as a future "Destroyer".

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how Peter progresses in VEI .... He can very easily end up going the "Destroyer" path. I think his abilities have been muted a bit through the last 6-7 issues after blowing people's heads up with just a thought in the renegades arc. He hasn't seemed like the reckless demi-god type character he was in the beginning two arc's ... but I could see him getting out of control again .... and perhaps the forces of Unity will have to reel him in..As for Solar, I think we will eventually see Erica Pierce fill that role. I also think Sting has potential for a similar role and has already been prophesized as a future "Destroyer".

I like the Mary-Maria idea, but I think that XO is too powerful to be a jungle hero, I want someone who can be hurt and has to rely on normal strength.BugsySig wrote:Volo: Dino-puncher!

Re: New VALIANT Jungle Hero
I don't see him as a jungle hero, the Turok I knew from VH1 was a man out of time, hunting creatures outside his natural realm. I think Aric covers those same concepts dealing with the Vine and the modern era.Ras the future fan wrote:I like the Mary-Maria idea, but I think that XO is too powerful to be a jungle hero, I want someone who can be hurt and has to rely on normal strength.BugsySig wrote:Volo: Dino-puncher!

If we're talking jungle hero thrown into the Faraway...meh. I think there's other concepts I'd rather see first.

Yes and yes. I was thinking something magic (to fill the more mystic side of the valiant universe) perhaps a shaman/druid/necromancer/witch doctor?

Re: New VALIANT Jungle Hero
Valiant can use any of the original characters from the Turok book that they created, just not Turok himself or any of the words from the old Gold Key books like the Lost Land.
Like obviously the Longhunter is a villain but if they wanted to have a gamehunter get sent to the Faraway there's nothing stopping them calling him the Longhunter or whatever. Same thing with Joshua Fireseed. They weren't in the original Gold Key comics so Gold Key has no claim on them. They could have a Mothergod villainn character (I actually thought that was where they were going with the Skymother moniker in A&A but that turned out to be something completely different...)

Re: New VALIANT Jungle Hero
Weeeellllll...if it's not the same character and it doesn't have the same creators behind it, I really don't see much point in Valiant trying to rehash the Gold Key Heroes with blatant knockoffs. I'd rather they either come up with entirely original books or do new books that are spinoffs of the existing ones (like the Gen 0 book everybody keeps asking for). Besides, with FVL and Pak working with Dynamite, I'm sure there will be a crossover eventually.
Re: New VALIANT Jungle Hero
Didn't Valiant say they were going to eventually create new heroes at some point once they relaunched most of the original ones? So it doesn't have to be a knockoff but something that shows up organically eventually.
