Batman - The Widening Gyre
Alright,
So I've really been getting into Batman lately. Year One was amazing. Reading Long Halloween too, which is already amazing. Hush was great, just totally digging the character and all the different takes/ interpretations of him.
Just read the Widening Gyre TPB, and loved every page of it. Just upset to find out that there was no more after that? It seemed like there was supposed to be more... Does anyone know the story? Low sales? Was it actually in continuity? Was the Baphomet character ever seen anywhere else? Was Silver St. Cloud a character in continuity?

That's the Kevin Smith book right? When Batman *SQUEE* his pants?Bone-A-Fach-ee wrote:Alright,

I haven't read it myself, but I know that the remaining issues were to be released this year.
Silver st. cloud is a comics character since the 70s- she is a creation of Steve Engleheart. You can find his (and Marshall Rogers) excellent run collected under the Stange Apparitions trade. Which are the best Batman pre-Frank Miller stories along with Denny O'neill/Neal Adams era.
EDIT- a quick search taught me the reason why I didn't recognize that Baphomet character: he's a Kev Smith creation for that book. Which I haven't read, as stated above.

I heard that Kevin Smith bragged about being high while writing this book. Seriously.

Not the first or last writer that plainly admits it. I haven't read the book, so I can't judge if it worked for him.AnthonyF wrote:I heard that Kevin Smith bragged about being high while writing this book. Seriously.

Kevin Smith admits that he smokes, not sure what bearing this has on you personally. I don't remember him bragging about smoking whilst writing this particularly.AnthonyF wrote:I heard that Kevin Smith bragged about being high while writing this book. Seriously.

I hadn't heard any positive reviews of the book till now.ian_house wrote: Kevin Smith admits that he smokes, not sure what bearing this has on you personally. I don't remember him bragging about smoking whilst writing this particularly.
His comments were mentioned in a review of the book, which was a very negative review. So I stayed clear of it.

Can't remember where I saw it. It was something like this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_Th ... on_history
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_Th ... on_history
Smith has described how he creates the scripts. Following Zack and Miri Make a Porno, he had "a sort of nervous breakdown, or as close to a mid-life crisis" and started heavily smoking cannabis, which, he claims, has contributed to his writing of the series:[7]
I’m not telling you anything new…I’m far more creative now, you know. I’ve been writing this Batman: The Widening Gyre miniseries, and I’m stoned all the time when I’m writing it. And, I swear, I’ll write it, and then, it’s not so much blackout, but forget, so much so that the next morning, I go to read what I wrote, and it’s, like, I’m that cobbler and elves came and wrote it in the night, because I’m, like, "This is better than anything I’ve ever written before." I mean, like, I’ve done comics, but this is way better.

But this quote doesn't brag about smoking and I just wondered why his smoking was something you felt the need to highlight.

I missed this one, mostly because I thought his previous Batman work was terrible. I also don't think he has even completed this series which is always a possibility when dealing with Kevin Smith.
