I love the alternate history stuff (which again reminds me to pick up Pax Romana) and Hickman is just so disturbingly brilliant. The art is pretty damn spiffy too. There's a lot of backstory that is slowly unfolding that makes it a little difficult to muddle through at first, but should make future reads that much better.
Just wondering: Is there a map of the "7 Nations of America" anywhere?

Odd that it's not in the TPB. It's right there in the first issue of the monthlies.
Have you only read the TPB now? If so, you haven't seen the Rangers yet. There is just way too much cool there. I was super bummed that there were no Rangers in #7. I see much awesome in this book's future.

Yes, just the trade (so 1-5). That's how I like my Image bookslorddunlow wrote:Odd that it's not in the TPB. It's right there in the first issue of the monthlies.

+1 to Elveen's comment.
Bugsy, you should get the digital monthlies directly from Image. If you wait a month, they go down to $1.99 each. That way you'd only be one month behind. I get Revival (and probably will start getting The Umbral) as digital monthlies only from Image. I just ordered the Deluxe HC of Revival from Amazon, but I can't wait that long to read the stories. I also like supporting the drm-free store that Image has.

Re: East of West Thread---WOW!!
My budget is kinda limited, so with 8 monthly VALIANT titles now, that's $32 a month. That leaves me enough of a budget for 1 or 2 trades on top of that.lorddunlow wrote:5 minute break from my work to respond...Elveen wrote:For me, this book is too good to wait for trades.

If I'm gonna wait and be a month behind, I might as well wait out the trade and read a whole arc at a clip. With Locke & Key and (likely) Young Avengers ending soon, I have room to add some trades to fill in the monthly waits.
So I now have Saga, Chew, MP, EoW and Revival from Image and Hawkguy from Marvel that I read in trade. Add in the VALIANT Masters and Deluxe editions and I like where I'm at

So I just re-read the entirety of East of West #1-7. This book is even more awesome than I originally thought. Xiaolian and the Rangers are such awesome characters. I cannot wait to see the battles that are sure to ensue in the coming issues. This is going to be quite the ride. Such awesome world building.
This page. So awesome. More Rangers please.

They have not explained that. I also wonder about this. I also wonder now about the hands (her sisters) that she sent the Chosen which fulfilled the prophecy. She must have placed the Lotus in one hand and the sword in the other, which means she intended to fulfill the prophecy. Otherwise, why would she do that? There is definitely strategy with everything Xiaolian does. My second reading illuminated a lot of her character that I either didn't remember or missed the first read through.Lightning Strike wrote:I can't remember but I don't think they explained yet how she got her new arms and hands. This book is full of absolutely awesome characters. I know Hickman won't do it, but he could seriously spin off 4-5 of the characters into separate books, and I would buy them all.

They really just flip flop around each other so much that I have to rank them together at this point.
So, I just realized that EoW is the only Hickman book I've read that doesn't recap the characters in the front or back. It has the coolest characters! It needs the recap.

Chiming in a bit late on this, but I'm really surprised to hear the map didn't make it into the trade... Although, if memory serves, didn't it make an appearance within the story in a panel, showing up on the back wall of a bar?
