Re: Bleeding Cool Unboxing & selling Unity 3D cover
At $187 right now with 13+ hours to go.
I think my LCS will regret sending back his unsold Unity #1's ... I think he did it before he realized this 3D cover existed.
Even if this price is inflated because its the first one on EBAY - I think conservatively he could have sold his copy for at least $150 and that would have been worth more than the money he got for sending them back.
Since I can't get one from my LCS ... I think i'll wait a few weeks and see how the price settles.
I've seen the pics and it looks beautiful - at around $150 is where i'd probably be comfortable buying this.

But he made a 200 copy order so he would have qualified for 2 of these, right?

So he would have made out a lot better by getting the 2 3D covers (I would have probably bought one from him for 150 bucks) + he would eventually have sold more of those Unity #1's ... Once he had a sale on his back issues - I would have definitely bought a bunch more #1's from him - tried to get at least doubles of all the covers..

Re: Bleeding Cool Unboxing & selling Unity 3D cover
If someone keeps the issues to get the 3D cover, in theory they then have some added inventory. It may take space, but it is also available for selling which would reduce the store cost. Even if they all get put in the quarter bin or something, that could be $25. That would lower the "real world" cost, unless they just discard those 100 issues they keep.
In reality, most stores probably ordered less than 100 issues and are getting these as well. They didn't have to make the decision to keep or return 100 copies (and get $200), their cost is less. Overall, the cost probably averages out to less than $200. Of course, that is the store cost. If you start factoring in a store markup (they are a business, after all, and can't just sell things at cost), that will increase the price again.
The big issue that will determine price is availability. These are going to be very rare, IMO. That will drive the price up more than the cost to retailers.

A good experiment by the Bleeding Cool guy to show retailers it will be worth not returning their XO copies to get these.

Re: Bleeding Cool Unboxing & selling Unity 3D cover
I was slightly uncomfortable with $231, but had just finished a glass of whisky and making sure the wife was "tucked" in for the night, so I figured what the hell...
I was pretty tired too, so I rolled over, grabbed my iPad and checked to see where things were. Figured that perhaps I had won the auction, and was going to send payment before turning in for the night.
(I think the poke emoticon will work here)
There was 2 min left, and I was still the highest bidder. My wife rolled over and asked "what are you looking at baby?" and my answer was NOT going to be "I'm about to enter a bidding war for a comicbook that may go into several hundred dollars..."
Told her that I was checking a message, and to go back to bed.
Then the price jumped to $233.50 with less than a minute to go. I was like, "Ok, the hawks are circling..." …but I can still drop $250 with 15 seconds to go”
WRONG!
It almost appeared that eBay broke for a second as bids FLOODED in and everyone dashed to the finish! Honestly, I didn’t expect it to hit $338 (no complaint, it’s a sweet cover, limited supply, and sort of cool to have this one in particular) but I was thinking that a bid of $250 would jump the other bidders and the final price would likely be $235-$240.
Now to see what the future holds for the next few of these...

Winning bidder supposedly set a high bid of $426.99

Unity #1 3D Cover Hits $338 On eBay – But Had A High Bid Of $427
Goodness.
Most retailers who ordered Unity #1 at returnable levels will be getting one copy of Unity #1 3D Cover, as shown on Bleeding Cool the other day. Other copies will be made available for every 100 copies of Unity #1 ordered that each retailer doesn’t return.
Which means that each retailers with spare copies on their hand will have to make a calculation.
This should make it easier. A hundred copies of Unity #1 will have cost a retailer around about $200. And a copy of Unity #1 3D, ahead of Friday’s decision day, just sold on eBay for $338. That’s a pure profit of $138 and you have a hundred copies of Unity to sell, discount or give away on Free Comic Book Day.
Of course that doesn’t mean all copies will sell for $338. They could sell for less. Or more, there were two bids in the final seconds, one of $333 and another for $426.99 (as the winner confident to me).

Oh, and I am doing something with the books I did not return that you guys will appreciate. I am pretty sure Valiant will retweet it and I think Rich may be doing a story on it. Not sure, but we'll see. I have figured out a way to use this to expand the valiant reader base.

So psyched to have one of these...probably the rarest comic I own now. Can anyone recommend a cool display option specifically for comics, preferably something that won't damage the comic, including possibly UV protection?

At one point, #55 was the only issue I was missing of Iron Man vol.1... Also at one point, it was a much more affordable value at $100NM. Still kicking myself for never getting one back then.

Re: Bleeding Cool Unboxing & selling Unity 3D cover
It's a ridiculous sum to spend and I'm a little irked that the movie tie-in has jacked up the price so much. But I was down to my last two issues to complete the entire run (still need #9) and it wasn't gettin' any cheaper. A really beat up reading copy with creases and color-break spine wear is going for $250 to $350. And the nice ones are all starting to get slabbed, so I finally took the plunge.GammaJosh wrote:Nice! The one I bought looks about as pristine as any I've seen on Ebay (perfect corners, no wear that I can see), and the seller has a 100% rating with like 10k sales so I'm hoping it was worth it.
