Re: The Most Important Comic Character Since Wolverine
For sure interest in Sandman. But for me only the early issues. Like 1-8ish. The other sandman books don't have enough value or desirability. At least as far as I know.kjjohanson wrote:What kind of interest is there in Sandman? I imagine most people buy that in trades, but maybe that's just my perception.Elveen wrote:I'm talking about back issue interest (which can most (or maybe a majority) of the time = current issue sales).
People DO occasionally ask for TMNT books, I have a small section of turtle books. I'm not talking about movies or TV or cartoons or merchandise, I'm talking about comic books. There are MUCH more Venom, Harley Q, Nightwing, and Deadpool fans than turtle fans. I don't think that can be argued. Again, I'm talking about physical comic books.
Re: The Most Important Comic Character Since Wolverine
I still believe Miles Morales is the most important comic book character since Wolverine, but since I started this thread Cindy Moon came along. The same spider that bit Peter Parker bit Cindy. She's way up there for me too, and could pass Miles in my view as the most important character since Wolverine.

I believe that you believe Miles Morales is that important, SB.
I believe he certainly has potential.
But he is clearly not the most important character created since Wolverine. Still.

All thing equal, being an important character in the Spider-Man mythos is a game changer.

I still would put Venom above Miles Morales.StarBrand wrote:All thing equal, being an important character in the Spider-Man mythos is a game changer.
I think it is arguable that Ben Reilly is at least as important of a spider-character as Miles Morales.
I'm not trying to be contrary about this, just sharing opinions.

Re: The Most Important Comic Character Since Wolverine
Miles is a B character at this time. They couldn't even do enough with him to have people stop asking for Peter back. Funny how people mention Ben Reilly because Miles is very much in that vein. Spider book people always love their firsts. That comes to costumes and characters. The answer to me is always the same....the writer. No not from Animal Man (though he could work!). The right writer clicking on the right character makes the character. I was never a Marvel cosmic guy but Annihilation by Lanning and Abnett come along and suddenly I am in. Darkhawk to me was a boring character, then comes War of Kings and I am hooked! The list goes on and on. Ok so my is done thank you.

Re: The Most Important Comic Character Since Wolverine
I'd have to say Dream, from DC's Sandman. He first appeared in 1989, and without Sandman, there'd've effectively been no Vertigo--Gaiman's work was the primary sales force for the imprint in its earliest years. Plus, Sandman was right up there with Watchmen when it came to attracting readers of other types of fiction to comics, and it brought a lot of female and gay readers into the comic shops for the first time, as well. The impact of Sandman has been so broad as the years have rolled by, I think you could even make an argument that no Sandman = no Walking Dead (as we know the series).

I still vote for:
Teenage. Mutant. Ninja. Turtles.
There isn't a person from 5 to 75 that doesn't know the turtles.
(And if there is, they probably don't know Wolverine either.)

I actually had Venom ranked as the most important comic character since Wolverine until Miles came along.Dr. Solar wrote:I still would put Venom above Miles Morales.StarBrand wrote:All thing equal, being an important character in the Spider-Man mythos is a game changer.

That was amazing, wasn't it? Hope you all loaded up on Adventure into Fear #19 - ironically, I bought my first 2 copies of that book last spring.geocarr wrote:Wow! Way to call it!
