And after the weekend and talking about comics for most of it (while doing the show), I even think this book is better than I think it is. I talked to a dude who owns a shop in Vegas, he said it is his BEST seller on a monthly basis.
I think this book is a GEM!

It just feels epic. Reading this book makes me feel like I imagine people must have felt when A New Hope premiered (I was born in 1981, so Star Wars was already a big deal when I was growing up). It just feels like something new and different and great.Elveen wrote:I agree.slym2none wrote:Just read 1-6 over two days.

I absolutely loved and went crazy about MP when Elveen and others suggested it, but this is even better. MP is just as good as it was initially, but this book is on another level entirely. Hickman really is something else. The only writer (in any medium) that can touch his ability to create characters and worlds that seem real and fantastic at the same time is Philip K. Dick who is one of my personal favorites in the prose world.

On a related note, I just finished vol 3 of MP. It's not fair to make the comparison, because it's not apples to apples except for having the same writer. MP is definitely one of my top 5 books right now, as is EoW.lorddunlow wrote:It just feels epic. I agree that it's not apples to apples. MP was my #1 by a large margin of every book on my pull. If someone said I had to limit myself to only one monthly book, EoW would be the one, with no hesitation.BugsySig wrote:On a related note, I just finished vol 3 of MP. As far as EoW goes, I've never had a book that was so good on the first read, but still improved so much on reread. There is so much nuanced stuff in the early issues that gets missed and is important later on. Especially the first issue.

She's definitely shaping up to be THE bad-*SQUEE* adversary for Death. This issue was great, but I'm itching to see more of the Rangers.grendeljd wrote:EoW #8 was a solid issue... Agents of the Apocalypse at work! Don't mess with the president!

I mentioned earlier about Dragotta's style reminding me of Akira... This issue it also struck me as having a strong Matt Wagner influence as well - and in fact, I think the level of excellence that this series hits as a sci-fi concept is getting close to that of Grendel. Loving it!

I've really enjoyed this series and LOVE Draotta's art. Also, now that you mention it, I can see classic Wagner/Grendel influences in his work...

Re: East of West Thread---WOW!!
The art and the coloring is top notch, like almost perfect in this book.
I just read EoW #8. My least favorite so far, but still VERY good. It seemed like a set up issue.
What I really like about this book is that it "seems" epic. There is weight to each page.

After re-reading #5-8 last night (I read #6 three times!), I have to say this is the best new series of the decade!
It is soooooo good.

I've read all the issues at least twice already. Definitely has a lot of re-read value. Art, writing, and pacing all work very well together.lorddunlow wrote:

The Rangers may seriously be the coolest characters ever created.

Yeah, I have to find issue 8 somewhere to read first. My store I goto regularly was out on Saturday when I went in and added EoW to my pull list. I have 1-7 though. Read them a couple of times through already.

#9 was freakin' awesome!!
No Rangers that I picked up on, but man - what a great story. Another nation enters the fray, is all I'll say [and thats not a spoiler, it begins on the first page].

Stupid misleading solicits.

I think the 1st Prince's little action scene made up for that a bit, didn't it? And what happened between Death & the Oracle?lorddunlow wrote:Loved #9, but sooooo bummed there were no Rangers.

Most definitely.
However, Hickman introduced what I consider the coolest characters in comics in issue #6, and we have yet to see them again. MUST. HAVE. RANGERS.

I already posted about it on the Watcha readin' thread, but just wanted to add that this comic is perfect, in the sense that the art and story are perfectly paired.

Ok, finally found a #8 and then read it and #9 so I am all caught up. I have to say I am really confused with the whole eyeball thing. It has happened twice now in this series , lol. The book does keep better and better! And I agree, the Prince's scene was kind of cool. Has anything been explained that maybe I have missed on why Death is not with the other three any longer? Or to that, why were they being "reborn" I guess in the first issue? Part of this has me confused ,lol. Does this story evolve from another series or something that maybe has some of my answers?

I think Chiclo stated it best in regards to books by Jonathan Hickman: he said that he always feels like he missed the first issue (or something along those lines).coachjamie wrote:Ok, finally found a #8 and then read it and #9 so I am all caught up. I like the mystery myself.
As for the eyes, I think the eye the bartender had was from the Oracle (just a guess).
