As seen above..
So thoughts, comments etc..

In my opinion this is a good thing, they really need a new creative team and preferably a soft reboot like they did with Shadowman..

I've been enjoying the current series and would rather let Pak do his thing than get a new creative team back with 9. He clearly has a story to tell and a world to build, so I say let it happen. And you know if he's on board the eventual A&A crossover will be glorious!

That said, there needs to be a pretty compelling reason for the hiatus other than lead-in time. I understand both present and future Gilads will be in use during the hiatus, but still. It better have a hell of a cliffhanger is all I'm saying. :P

This hiatus has me worried for a few reasons.

1. Whenever i see a creator "confirm" a "hiatus" on a title and the publisher isn't saying anything, it seems to be a prelude to the title being canceled.

2. The excuse that its on hiatus because Rai is being introduced doesn't hold water. Even if Gilad is going to be in the series (and there has been little mention of him being a part of Rai's first arc), since when is a character appearing in a crossover a reason to put the character's own title on hiatus? Wouldn't you want to have something on the shelf in the event someone sees the character in Rai and is curious enough to want to read more about them?

3. The one reason that the "hiatus" would make sense is that VEI simply doesn't have the funding or staff necessary to put out more titles per month, so if the are spending cash to put out Rai, they have to conserve somewhere else. They won't be able to put out more EW books unless/until they can cut cost or raise revenue somewhere else.

Or lastly...

4. The editorial staff and/or management is just flaky and thinks 8 issues is plenty of time to gauge the market for a character or concept. All of a sudden Marvel and DC are looking positively patient by comparison.

Eternal Warrior was my favorite character from the old Valiant. But I haven't really liked his new series. This break gives me a chance to think about how much I really want to continue getting it.

To be bluntly honest, the first arc was a confusing mess, and Hairsine (who I normally love) didn't do it for me.

The second arc had some interesting ideas, but the art failed for me.

I approve the hiatus, hoping it improves the quality of this book.

1. Agreed. I'd like to hear from VEI on it.

2. I have to disagree here. If Pak's next arc was to take place in the future, but Kindt is using him in Rai at the same time, I can understand not wanting to confuse continuity or the audience, or making it into a mini-event/crossover that people feel duped into buying. Also, if people see him in Rai and want to grab another book with him in it, they can buy Unity--which also happens to be by the same writer.

3. Agreed here. Perhaps with their new initiative, Armor Hunters, etc, they just needed to reduce what they were doing temporarily. But if the statement that they will be publishing 8-10 titles monthly holds true, then there is still a place for Eternal Warrior.

4. I can't believe this is true. Dino, Warren, etc are smarter than that. Not to mention the book continues to sell well (or at least as well) as compared to the other titles.

I really don't understand putting this series, of all books, on hiatus. if they don't want it to conflict with any other current stories, there are thousands of years of Gilad's history they could have jumped to and told an isolated story that didn't interfere with outside continuity. it seems like it has to be a business reason, not editorial, driving this decision.

I have no "information" here, but until VEI releases any imformation on an EW Hiatus I'm not sure it is "official".

Maybe Pak is taking a break but EW is not? Who knows? :?

It seems to me that important information like a hiatus would/should come from VEI.

I don't think it is being cancelled or being given a hard reboot. It hasn't been around long enough yet for that, and I believe Valiant is patient.

This 4001 arc has been good. I've liked the character development of EW. I'm curious to see what will happen to his granddaughter. I want to know more about the state of affairs of the rest of the world, who's giving orders, etc.

There's nothing that says a book has to be monthly. It's convenient, and readers like a schedule, but Saga regularly does breaks and I think it does the creators good.

If EW is going to be a part of the Rai storyline, I'd rather he not have a rehash of the experience in his own book. This puts more focus on Rai. It also avoids the negativity that seems to surround a book when it's retelling the same story from a different viewpoint. There were lots of grumbles about this during Harbinger Wars, especially for Bloodshot, which like EW, is a book more based on action rather than a character's internal monologue/struggles.

Right now, EW feels a bit separated from the rest of the universe. For me, I think it is because of the time period difference. I like this EW. I liked that the "younger" one in "current" time was starting to develop better. We've seen so many versions of him in the various other books that I was glad to see them settle on characterizations. My least favorite version was his appearance in A&A as an unreasonable killer. I hope that when it comes back from hiatus, it helps to clean up the differences in the storylines. Like how he went from punching Buck and basically cursing his existence to being so angry at his accidental death via A&A that he turned into a mindless killer.

I'm not worried. We'll see Valiant's plan soon enough.

I don't get the hiatus thing. Now if we had Armor Wars: Eternal Warrior I'd kinda get it a bit more since VEI now has a pattern with that on Shadowman and (presumably) Bloodshot.

At any rate I'm willing to tolerate what Dinesh&Co. deem best for now. If hiatus to return to titles numbering is what they think should happen, fine. I don't know their reasons but looking at it from the outside it doesn't make full sense. I just accept there are variables and/or plans I am not privy to.

Lots of miniseries this summer. "Someone" brought to my attention the idea of limiting expansion. :thumb: I think he's right. One of the CBR articles has the pull list for the Armor Hunters crossovers. With all those additional books competing, makes sense to limit what they are offering so we don't get overloaded. EW has been out the shortest time-wise. Also, not sure what the sales numbers are like, but they may want to use this time to retool if necessary. I do believe Valiant is patient and will let the book's popularity grow naturally and not cancel it in its infancy, but I believe they are trying to avoid repeating what happened with Shadowman.

Since Unity #8-11 are part of the Armor Hunters checklist, Gilad with definetly have a hand in the action (an armored spiked hand holding a big axe, I'm guessing)!

I'm starting to get right with the hiatus idea. I don't want to see them just throwing stuff against the wall because they feel like they have to. My opinion is like some others, they are just waiting so they can line up the events of Rai and EW that doesn't confuse readers or feel like filler issues.

I think there are big plans afoot. What seems like panic, is very likely the result of longrange planning and finetuning. It is not uncommon for books in this day and age, to take a break. Image does it all the time. Vertigo does it all the time, or did. Both in order to have a "skip month" where the trade collection comes out, but also to give artists and writers a chance to breathe.

If Rai had to take a break for one month after every arc in order for Crain to have time to keep painting all the issues, I'd put up with it. But it has to be scheduled and communicated to people in advance so nobody starts freaking out and assuming that the title has been cancelled or thinking that it's just shipping late. Communication is the key.

Or we could just, ya know, not freak out. Ultimately they're going to do what they're going to do, and they're going to do that for reasons which make sense to them, not because a bunch of screaming fan boys need more certainty.

There was a lot of negativity expressed on these boards when Valiant announced the "Death of Renegade" arc, since people don't like storylines spoiled. Maybe there's some crucial reason that EW needs a pause for the first Rai arc, and they think that the advance Crain art and a #1 issue is enough help for sales that they don't need to get more spoilery with their marketing.

In short, chill, and read the comics.
