What 1st appearances would you like to own?

Post by Elveen »

So I have been doing some research on 1st appearances and it got me thinking....

What 1st appearances would the peeps here like to own. Now I'm not talking about any the BIG obvious ones (Supes, Bats, Spidey, Wolvie....ect)....

So let's cap the price at under 2 hun-do.

So what 1st appearances (under $200) would you like to own / or are happy you own?

Good topic. I've thought about that in the past as well. It's tough to predict who will be hot in the future because it usually depends on what companies do with the characters. They can be lame for a while and then become great or they can stay lame. I'm excluding first issue appearances like sandman, Yorick, preacher because those are obvious.

Obvious ones:

Gambit
Jubilee
Nightwing
Impulse
Rocket raccoon
Cable
Deadpool
Harley Quinn
Nightcrawler
Bullseye
Elektra

I can't think of many others because new characters just aren't iconic nowadays. Personally, I don't really care to own any of the above.

Some ones that aren't so obvious that I like probably more than the ones above:

Damian Wayne
Invincible
Allen the alien
Atom eve
Angstrom levy
Layla miller
Doop

Some walking dead characters are hot like Abe, Michonne, the preacher and Jesus, but I don't really see the sense in that because when they die, they are gone.

Deadpool, even though I hate the character and care nothing about his first appearance. The only reason I want it is to complete my New Mutants run. :!:

Well if you've got Storm and Colossus, you've also got your first appearances of Nightcrawler and Thunderbird. If you think about it per character maybe the price wouldn't be so outrageous.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Doctor Octopus (although I think that's more than $200)
Venom
Ras al Ghul
Bane
Judge Dredd

And, not a first appearance, but a death - ASM #121 the death of Gwen Stacy - I have her first appearance and I think her death was one of the biggest game changers in comics. And I love Gwen Stacy.
*SQUEE* your science, I have a machine gun.

My first choice is easy - Hellboy. I've wanted that one for some time.

If I avoid the obvious big ones (especially Batman-related), my choices are a bit odd.

Well, I made a spreadsheet awhile ago that has the key issues I want to own in the future (only marvel really done so far).

Here are the ones that are 250ish or lower (in the target grade). These aren't prices from the cgc census, but ebay sold listings mostly and some are probably different now as its a bit out of date.
I put the ones up to 250 vs 200 as I figured I could find them at lower prices if I waited it out.

I don't own ANY of these (yet), but I figured I'd have a list ready so I can start collecting these when I am ready (although I have been buying MTG cards quite a bit so this is on the backburner)... Also, some are not first appearance, but...

The headings are:

Character Title Issue Year Age Grade Price Rank

Rank is my rank meaning priority for me to buy it based on me liking the character, age of book, etc.
  • First Issue New Mutants 1 1983 Modern 9.8 50 3

Now is not th time to be buying that book. I'm sure the prices are high right now with the TV show.

Carol Danvers (who later becomes Ms./Captain Marvel). I'll be looking for this one at Wondercon. They've done so much with the character in the books over the last 10-15 years. Plus I have a feeling if/when they introduce her in the films, she'd really take off.
Black Science. Lazarus. Birthright. Saga. Manifest Destiny. Deadly Class.

Tell me about it.

My only consolation is that the publicity might encourage Marvel to try another ongoing series. If. Ot i am sure the hype will die down eventually.

I had no idea that book was hot. I think I have a pretty good copy somewhere. Last time I looked at the price was the last time it was hot (1992ish).

I'd like the first Carol Danvers too. Also first Supergirl (Action #252) non-slabbed.

Put me down for Carol Danvers' first appearance. I became quite fond of the character during Infinity and have followed since.

Modern books (under 200) I have... As far as what I want only one book is my grail. I keep putting feelers out but I would not spend the money so far for it. But one day I hope. Nice lists though. Very neat.

Wow, just looked up what that is. Pretty cool book!
At wondercon, I have Beach Ball comics bringing me a Marvel Age 86, and 89, two pretty worthless books. But they have previews of The New Warriors in them. Came out before Thor 411 & 412, and New Warriors 1. Psyched to get them in a couple of days!
Already have Nova's first appearance, (I believe Nova #1 from the 70's), and Speedball's 1st appearance in a Spidey annual.
As you can tell, I like the New Warriors. OG version.

I think I have those Marvel Age books. I have a huge run of them. I was going to use them to line the flower beds, but now...

Just kidding!
