That would be the first time I've heard that bit of data. I'd like this confirmed or denied myself. I hope it's not just a mini series.

I hear Faith will be continuing as a character in this book after Harbinger #25 - you know, because she's going to die and all.

I had a feeling it would be. feel it out to see if it could hold a continuing series while place-holding a supernatural book spot for Shadowman.

Re: Is Dr.Mirage a 5 Issue Mini??
It was listed as a four issue made mini on a slide at the panel when I asked about it they said that a simple error was made and it is in fact a five issue mini.

Darn it! Well, better that than nothing I guess. That'll give them a nice solid base for the character going forward and if it sells well, maybe it'll get an ongoing someday.

Re: Is Dr.Mirage a 5 Issue Mini??
They definitely intended it to be an ongoing series when they announced it
Kind of disappointing .. but i'm excited by the story idea and I think it will be a great way of officially introducing Dr. Mirage to the VEI universe and perhaps after the mini ends she will find herself in Unity ... or Secret Weapons or maybe some new paranormal super-team title

Yeah, I remember them specifically telling people it was an ongoing. Oh well... hopefully it's good like A&A was and gets promoted to ongoing because of that...bygranddesign wrote:They definitely intended it to be an ongoing series when they announced it

Re: Is Dr.Mirage a 5 Issue Mini??
Hmm, that's too bad, I was hoping for an ongoing series.
However, I will say that this rotation of titles, to keep the titles at 9-10, might be a really good strategy. It allows people like me to collect all the Valiant titles and read the whole universe, but by rotating some titles, it keeps things a little fresh and new. I'm not sure I like the idea of starting titles over with new number 1's after just 25 or so issues, but as long as they're keeping things around 10 titles, plus occasional miniseries, I suppose I can live with that.
As long as the stories remain really good: I guess that's what really matters.
Again, I think the strategy is very interesting. It might be a pretty smart way to hook in new readers, in a way that just the same old titles month after month may not. I actually think, upon reflection, that even though it's a little frustrating for someone who already reads all the titles, it might be a really good strategy for bringing in new readers, which is of course what they want to do.
We'll see how it plays out. I bet we'll see Valiant slowly and steadily grow in readership.

Re: Is Dr.Mirage a 5 Issue Mini??
I also understood this to be an ongoing series? As it's a 5 issue mini I might wait for the TPB.
I don't know if it's better or worse (financially) for VEI if people trade wait but it's possibly something I might do more of with limited series. Particularly if I'm a little 'on the fence' about a character as I am with Dr Mirage.
I wonder how the creative team (more so the writer) adjusted with this change?

Interesting thought there... I wonder if more people will be tempted to trade-wait if they know it's a mini-series ahead of time? (I won't be, I prefer individual comics)Dallow Spicer1 wrote:I also understood this to be an ongoing series? As it's a 5 issue mini I might wait for the TPB.![]()

There is a parallel with Image happening here, if they do have a long term plan hatching to do more limited series like this... And I think it may actually work for them. Think of a book like Luther Strode, it is specifically done as sets of mini-series. Even Saga tends to take a short break between story arcs that are collected in trades, though they are also maintaining chronological numbering so far.
Personally, I don't mind the wait in between books like that when it's a planned thing and is built into the schedule. I expect it and so it's not disappointing. It also gives my wallet a break from time to time, but in the long run I still have a pile of issues of a good comic to go back & enjoy re-reading. In the case of what VEI seems to be doing, there will potentially always be a batch of titles out every month, so maybe rotating through what is presently on shelves won't be so bad.
I still hope they will maintain a few flagship titles for some long term numbering.

As for Dr. Mirage: You would have to prove to me that the character and concept could actually warrant an ongoing series before I could say I was disappointed it was "only" going to be a miniseries. I admit I don't know much about it but from what little I've seen, I can't say that I think it could support a long term readership.
But that's what the mini-series is for, to introduce a new character, gauge audience response and act accordingly. Maybe rotate her into Unity for 6 months at some point.
I bet they wished they'd done this with Q&W. I've always thought QW was an odd choice for one of their initial ongoing titles, while Ninjak and Rai were kept waiting in the wings.

Re: Is Dr.Mirage a 5 Issue Mini??
Well I expect Q&W will be in something month to month if not in there own monthly title... just shooting from the hip here but with Q&W #12 being the last issue before Delinquents #1 hits I expect the Priest and Bright Q&W book to finally hit stands. Maintaining that monthly Q&W Valiant fix for the remaining 2014 year.

I will still buy individual copies if the book interests me enough eg Shadowman: End Times, Harbinger:Omega etc but in the case of Dr Mirage I'm not sure the concept is that strong so unless the reviews are phenomenal I'll probably wait for the TPB.grendeljd wrote:Interesting thought there... I agree that they should have done Q&W as a series of minis too as it was a risky decision to launch as an ongoing.

I don't think Q&W was a risky choice at all as an ongoing. Of all the VALIANT IPs it was/is still one of the most recognizable among the general public, arguably more so than Rai, Eternal Warrior and even Archer & Armstrong.
