Re: Sketch cover gallery
I'd leave it to just pencils too. I love the kinda rough unfinished look. Anytime I buy artwork from eBay and it's got some pencils showing through, I love it. Shows part of the creative process and I love that.hawkeyeps wrote:I think I've got to leave it pencils, I just love looking at it. I need an opinion- Should I see if I could get Phillip Tan to go all the way with this cover, inks and colours? He's in Vancouver from the 18th to the 20th and once again my pal Roberto will be there, I may have a shot at getting it done![]()
I'm kind of torn though because the pencils are so nice and tight I'm tempted to leave it like that so the work is visible.
Any thoughts from the group?![]()
Wow, I never even thought about getting a blank cover copy and then commissioning an artist...what a cool idea! And some of these covers are really nice! Hmm...

I would just leave it as is. The pencils are absolutely fantastic and don't need anything else. Whenever you have a really good artist the uncolored product is usually better. If you're going anyway I would get him to do a new sketch and expand your collection.

I can't quite make an informed decision based on a scan alone. Subtlety of the artwork is probably not coming through. Why don't you just send it to me so I can look at it in person? I'll PM my address. Don't worry, I'll cover the shipping.
Why don't you start holding your breath now

With all the Cons coming up I hope to see a lot of action in this thread

Hawkeye, my gut says stick with the Tan pencils on that Unity book. I always personally find it a tough transition from the subtlety & range of pencil work to the harsh definitions of ink. Something always seems to get lost there.

If all you want is quick head sketch many artists will do for free...always try you never know

The Matt Kindt Ninjak and signature was FREE!
I just love seeing original art sketch covers especially when they're Valiant.
I hope we represent at the cons this year, I'm tired of seeing Batman.

Not a sketch cover, but this is going in to my Manowar custom hardcover bind.
Cary Nord drew this for me at the 2012 Calgary Expo.

Not sure who this belongs to (it was posted on the Valiant Facebook page) but this makes me insanely jealous. Beautiful sketch by Riley Rossmo - just had to share it. Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes if this belongs to a fellow board member.
