Goodman' grandson has said he'd never sell the IPs, but Dynamite now owns the trademark he couldn't obtain a few years back.
Either DE is purchasing/licensing the Atlas characters or they're just being sleepy as usual. My money is on the latter.
Besides, you know they'd spend a load of time publicizing a new universe of books just end up with massive delays and cancellations. It's amazing they're still in business at all.

It's a nunc pro tunc assignment, which usually means there was an oral agreement between the parties, and the written agreement was made at a later date (sometimes much later). Not that it necessarily means much here, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Re: Dynamite does it again...purchases Atlas TM
I suspect that something is in the works. I contacted Jason Goodman (owner of the Atlas characters) regarding the trademark on several occasions and he is yet to get back to me. In the past, he has always responded quickly to any inquiries I had. I also emailed Dynamite and got no reply (as expected). I contacted Bleeding Cool regarding the trademark issue this morning and they were very quick to post the article. In any case, I'm curious to see what happens.

Re: Dynamite does it again...purchases Atlas TM
I was unaware of the attempted revival of the Atlas brand so this was news to me.
My immediate question is: What characters are involved and what makes them interesting?
The revived Atlas only had a year +/- in existence that I can tell from the Atlas wiki page.

As much as I'd love someone to take another shot at these characters, I cringe at Dynamite being the one to do it.TheVisitor wrote:I suspect that something is in the works. Re: Dynamite does it again...purchases Atlas TM
Doesn't Dynamite outright own the Chaos Universe characters now, sans Lady Death. They also wholly own Vampirella, yes?
Now they own these few Atlas characters. Toss in their PSP characters and you might could have something grand.
Any chance they get their act together and try to craft and retool where needed these characters into one universe, even if the characters rarely interacted at first?

They don't own the Atlas characters, though - just the trademarks. I guess we'll find out what their plans are soon enough.Captain Craig wrote:Doesn't Dynamite outright own the Chaos Universe characters now, sans Lady Death. They also wholly own Vampirella, yes?

Alone, listless, breakfast table in an otherwise empty room.

Not sure they own anything more than the "Atlas Comics" TM now. I remember Jason Goodman registering a ton of TMs before the last revival.jeremycoe wrote:They don't own the Atlas characters, though - just the trademarks. And yes DE own the Chaos characters minus Lady Death and also own Vampirella.

Do they own Vampirella or are they just leasing her? I know that one of the guys that works for Dynamite (Eric Trautmann?) owns the trademark of Red Sonja too.

I looked over the Atlas characters and they seem unremarkable.

Yeah. A few have potential but they're mostly blank slates. I don't think any books lasted more than 4 or 5 issues.Brother Darque wrote:yeah really, dornwolf wrote:This is what I'm wondering what's worth the effort?Captain Craig wrote:I was unaware of the attempted revival of the Atlas brand so this was news to me.

Scorpion, Destructor, Grim Ghost, Phoenix, Wulf, Iron Jaw, Morlock and Planet of Vampires would seem to have the most potential. Most others were uninspired horror and crime books.

Plenty of reasons - Atlas Seaboard HistoryBrother Darque wrote:why did they only last a year?
I've always felt that the back story behind Atlas-Seaboard was more interesting then the comics.
The 1st and 2nd issues of many titles were actually pretty good, but publisher Martin Goodman decided they were not enough like Marvel Comics so with the 3rd issues major changes took place.

Re: Dynamite (sucks!) does it again...purchases Atlas TM
I sort of agree with you considering that they were just slight alterations of movies that Atlas wanted to license, but didn't want to pay huge sums of money for the rights. Still though, the majority of the movies that the comics were "copy and pasting" have kind of faded from the public's consciousness, so it might be interesting to see what can be done with them if Dynamite decides to do anything at all with the license. If not, Atlas still is a curious footnote in comics' history as "Marvel without all the inner-office politics and people who know nothing about comics running a comicbook company"Brother Darque wrote:yeah really, I looked over the Atlas characters and they seem unremarkable.

I have nothing to add here. Just wanted to see if typing Dynamite gets an auto-"suck"
Edit: And indeed, it does.
Dy-no-mite!! doesn't suck though.

Update via Bleeding Cool: Goodwin/Nemesis perhaps trying to re-obtain the TM for Atlas Comics...

Go Nemesis! I just landed a bunch of beautiful Atlases--by far the nicest copies of The Brute, Phoenix, Scorpion, et al, that I've ever seen. What I don't have, and I gotta find, are some NM copies of every issue of Iron Jaw and Wulf.

So true. The failed Atlas relaunch is the blueprint to avoid when it comes to (re)launching a shared universe, while VEI is the gold standard.Chiclo wrote:Poor Atlas. Too bad, because there is potential there. The characters are mostly less interesting versions of other comicbook heroes, but they offer a great launching point.
