Not according to what VEI has said so far. The solicitation actually specifically said "No Digital".

That way everyone gets what they want.
I'd be completely ok with that personally. I just want to check out the story, since I'm a Valiant completist. Print numbers don't matter to me. I have talked with my shop owner so hopefully he can order enough to qualify (I made sure he knew about the return aspect for the Book of Death main series issues). I may have to spend an arm and a leg on Ebay, if worse comes to worst.

I'd be all for that. I'd be all for a coupon book too. Cutting up comics to get more comics AWESOME!

Same here. But is there any indication VEI are planning that? I hope they listen to the dissent and consider it.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

I would even accept that as a better option than the proposed model. :|

I will buy the mini-series through DCBS for $1.99 an issue and be done with it. I decided after Harbinger Wars that I would not collect variant covers for any mini-series and that has served me well since VEI has put out several. Also, with all the variant covers for Ninjak and Bloodshot that I still need, my days of buying the #1 variants may be over with. facepalm

I will probably try to get it, but I am not happy about it. If this becomes a trend I will protest by not buying books using retailer incentives and possibly stop getting Valiant books altogether.

This to me is similar to the types of gimmicks done in the 90s that sold a lot of comics in the short term, but alienated a lot of fans and LCS in the long run.

I've read everything VEI has published so far, but if I'm unable to get this book then that will probably make me less concerned about being a Valiant completionist in the future.

I'm happy for this promotion. If it wasn't for the promotion, who's to say we'd even get this series at all? From what FVL has said it sounds like this was initially pitched to him in the context of the promotion.
