You should have stuck with your original guess. You could have made this happen.

In med school, I actually told one of my professors that he was to point out if I erased any answers and to go with my original answer. I can't tell you how many tests I've taken that have the correct answer scribbled out or erased so that I could then put the incorrect answer.
