Re: New artists on Valiant relaunch?
Buckingham has been the regular artist on Fables since about the 6th or 7th issue. The series is currently going strong and is at 110 issues. As for the guys you didn't recognize, they mostly did work for DH, and on the CGW/DHH line. In particular, they worked on Ghost, although I think Baker also did some work on licensed products. As for Saltares, he was the artist for the last year of X, and he worked at Marvel for a while on Punisher or Punisher: War Journal, and, I think, Ghost Rider. He's not GREAT but with modern coloring techniques and the right inks, he could be very good. I avoided listing people I knew for certain were under under contract to DC or Marvel. Otherwise, I'd have asked for Ivan Reis and Dough Mankhe.SJS4 wrote:Charles Adlard - I think the only thing I ever saw him draw is Mars Attacks way back when. Paul Guillory
Charles Adlard
Mark Buckingham
Sergio Arragones
Steve Rude (given other issues, maybe not but he could use the work)
Bob Hall (hey, I LIKED his art)
H.M.Baker
Scott Benefiel
Matt Haley
Christian Zanier
Ryan Benjamin
Javier Saltares
Don Perlin (if he still does work)
Mark Buckingham - I remember him as an inker...didn't know he does pencils now.
Sergio Arragones - I have never seen him do anything other than Groo
Steve Rude (given other issues, maybe not but he could use the work) - He would be awesome
Bob Hall (hey, I LIKED his art) - Would be awesome if he got to do shadowman again
H.M.Baker - Not familiar with him
Scott Benefiel - Not familiar with him
Matt Haley - Remember him from Dark Horse, was a solid artist
Christian Zanier - Not familiar with him
Ryan Benjamin - Not familiar with him
Javier Saltares - Remember him from some Dark Horse licensed stuff. Was not bad, but not great either.
Don Perlin - Would be awesome to see him do Valiant stuff again
I would add John Dixon and Jackson Guice to the above. Both guys did great work on various titles for Valiant. I was a big fan of Mike Leeke way back when as well...he was actually my favorite XO artist even though he only had a short stint.
Oh, and btw, Adlard has been the regular artist for The Walking Dead almost as long as Bucky has been on Fables.

I think it would be a cool change up if the Yearbooks (or 1 shots) were done in a totally different style.
I think the cartoon style would be cool, like Chris Giarrusso (G-Man), or James Silvani.
but then to really get some coolness what about Katie Cook or Laurie B.
But you know what would be really sweet........ Valiant Usagi with Stan Sakai.

Not too familiar with Bennett's work, but I can back the rest 100%Jay Tomio wrote:I was going to start a topic like this![]()
Mind you my choices are based on style I'd like to see in VALIANT or on particular characters not just based on who would bring instant money, I'm also not going to include people who really only (or mostly) do covers (Del Otto, Suydam, Bianchi etc ) My short list:
Gene Ha
David Aja
Shane Davis
John Cassaday
Joe Bennett

What I have seen from Wagner Reis and Ryan Sook are pretty cool but I can't imagine either style clicking well with Valiant.
But the more I think about it, the more I think Wagner Reis would draw a really awesome X-O Manowar or Eternal Warrior book.

Hasn't Bart Sears been out of comics for years? Why have I been seeing recent X-O commissions on ComicArtFans lately? Is he coming back to comics? Maybe Valiant???

Re: New artists on Valiant relaunch?
If he can tone it down from what he did the last go around and stay far far far away from writing the book, then I might not have a problem with Sears being associated with XO again. Otherwise, I still consider his time on the book to be a very dark period and one of the worst runs I've ever seen on any title.Crow331 wrote:Hasn't Bart Sears been out of comics for years? I agree. Bart is a great artist and I loved his early work, but he really got carried away later on. It was very sad to see the book morph into Image title.xodacia81 wrote:If he can tone it down from what he did the last go around and stay far far far away from writing the book, then I might not have a problem with Sears being associated with XO again. A mid 90's IMAGE book might have been an improvement on what happened to XO from about 48-60.Daniel Jackson wrote:I agree. The cover to #14 was when I got that feeling. Not sure if that's the issue you are talking about.

Re: New artists on Valiant relaunch?
Sears covers and most of his interior art-in his first run and the first 3 or 4 issues of his second run-were never the problem. It was how the art started to become a distraction to itself and when he began first to rewrite the scripts and then to just flat out do them himself, the whole series went in the *SQUEE*.400yrs wrote:Jay Tomio wrote:I remember vividly when I saw Sears X-O cover with Turok because it was the first time I saw a VALIANT cover that looked like it was trying to compete with the market.

I think it was announced that he is going to be doing something for Marvel....... I want to say an X-Men book or something. It sounded strange, but very interesting.Jay Tomio wrote:What is Brian Wood doing? That guys is G'ness.

I find it interesting that Warren Simons made three tweets linking to work of a fellow named Darrow.

Maybe? The guy's name is Geof Darrow but I didn't see anything mentioned about Shaolin Cowboys.Elveen wrote:Geoff Darrow from Shaolin Cowboy?Chiclo wrote:I find it interesting that Warren Simons made three tweets linking to work of a fellow named Darrow.

Re: New artists on Valiant relaunch?
I'll go against the grain - not a huge fan of Darrow's work.
I'll give it a shot because it's Valiant, but his work is just too detailed for me. Every page feels like a Where's Waldo puzzle!
I'm no prude either, but find a lot of his work has so much gore that it stops shocking you after a while.

I never read any of his books, but I can agree that his covers are VERY detailed. I would love to see his version of the Valiant characters.
