I agree that the Gold Key should be included as their continuity was written into the Valiant line. The Dark Key however shouldn't be as they were never intended to tie into Valiant.etos45 wrote:I understand that they were Gold Key first. For me, though, they will always be Valiant characters. Especially when they were written by Shooter. Honestly, I don't really care if they are included, I just think it could go either way depending on your thinking.BruceReville wrote: They aren't even old Valiant as they were Gold Key before. I say no because they have no tie-ins to Valiant now, the old Gold Key titles were purposely worked in Valiant continuity as this version totally ignores it.

Re: YOUR VALIANT INVENTORIES ONLINE (seriously.)
and certainly with Shooter writing, it was probably more of Valiant than Gold Key was.etos45 wrote:BruceReville wrote:But also as I mentioned the old Gold Key was incorporated into current continuity and sorry just because Shooter wrote it doesn't mean squat. If you want to add all of the Valiant-Theme stories Shooter wrote then you need to add Broadway - Defiant - and the original Valiant Themed New Universe from Marvel.
The only thing I want to say about this is that your line of thinking is wrong. It's not just that Shooter wrote it that makes it possible to consider, but also the fact that these characters (mostly) were in the Valiant universe. The characters from Defiant, New Universe, Broadway, etc were not.
I will concede that they are based more on the Gold Key property, so if you would rather consider this a jump over Valiant you could do that. The question is, why did they hire Shooter to do it? I think they were hoping to recreate that Valiant feel and lure in Valiant fans. Otherwise maybe they would have tried to bring in Gold Key people (I don't know, are they even alive?).
I was responding to this from KB as far as Shooter's writing - honestly Shooter wasn't the only spoke in the wheel when it came to Valiant, but sometimes I hate to put it this way but the Shooter-Worship is kinda

I do think that they hired Shooter to 1) Attract old Valiant and 2) Catch the old Valiant magic (which failed miserably).
I want my Valiant pure and Dark Key is just a stain to those characters that USED to be Valiant.

I agree that the old Gold Key should be included but not the Dark Key issues,I like them actually but they have nothing to do with Valiant or Valiant continuity in any form.Still good though.

I see where you're coming from. I think that old "Shooter-worship", is warranted because what was done in his time as Valiant was amazing. Granted, I know he wasn't the only one there, but I don't think it was a coincidence that the quality declined after he left. That being said, though, I think he's lost that magic over the years and after the Dark Key stuff, I'm actually pretty glad he's not there.BruceReville wrote:I was responding to this from KB as far as Shooter's writing - honestly Shooter wasn't the only spoke in the wheel when it came to Valiant, but sometimes I hate to put it this way but the Shooter-Worship is kindaIt may not be that way here but when you read alot of posts where No Shooter = No Valiant or Shooter is Valiant and Valiant without Shooter is nothing it makes it seem that way.

Strange and funny.
Dunno. I never worshiped Shooter - just Valiant. In fact, I pretty much disliked all of the Dark Key re-birth. I haven't read much (VERY close to ANY) of the Gold Key line. What I did read was painful. Dark Key wasn't painful - just bad.
I was only looking at it from a perspective of all three having the characters. While Valiant included the existence of Gold Key in its history (Seleski modeling himself), Dark Key had Shooter's involvement.
Don't get me wrong. I don't LIKE Dark Key very much. But I also didn't like Punx, either. Punx SHOULD be in the multiverse. Gold Key probably should be included. Perhaps Dark Key could, too. Still friends, all?

Yes, I'm responding to myself and hijacking the thread - just a bit.
I think the closest I ever came to following someone blindly was Christopher Priest.
I LOVED Quantum and Woody, then bought Power Man/Iron fist (quite good), and Xero (decent) but also Arion (painful, SO painful). I think I found some other junk, too.
Back to your regular programming...

Funny, I quit collecting right after Chaos Effect. I guess that's why i only remember Valiant for putting out good stories. I've read a couple post Chaos Effect issues since then and some of them are horrible.

greg wrote:Originally (that is, in the late-1990s), I wasn't going to include Acclaim on my website. Acclaim was still alive and they weren't "Valiant", so I wanted them to do their own promoting.
Now that Acclaim is long gone, and VEI has acquired Acclaim's copyrights and trademarks, it's easier to say that Valiant and Acclaim are more closely related.
VEI hasn't ruled out the return of some of the Acclaim properties because they said they will keep/use the best concepts in their arsenal.
I plan to enhance the inventories program, but my current priorities are:
- add new books as they come out
- add the cover date or year to the book name
- notations about the categor(ies) for each book (regular, variant, reprint, pre-unity, unity, acclaim, etc.)
- determine if we want/need a way to store grade/condition, and if so, what about multiple copies, what about slabbed books?
- determine if the Dell/GoldKey/Nintendo/WWF books need to be added (even if there are no guide values for points)
So, long story short, I don't have any plans to add Dark Horse (Dark-Key) books because they aren't Valiant or Valiant/Acclaim-related stories.
I haven't ruled out the possibility of adding Dark-Key later, but I would say Dell/GoldKey and non-hero Valiant will be ahead of them in priority.
Plus, I'm still concerned that the code isn't perfect and it may need some significant bugs fixed.
I vote for adding slabs. I need some points for all these 9.8's I picked up.

I added mine (mostly off of memory). Interestingly the most expensive valiant comic I have (Harbinger 1 CGC 9.8) doesn't seem to make a difference in points. The EW VVSS seems to be the single biggest point comic I have.
