I don't say this much: quoted for truth.schi0249 wrote:Personally, I am sick of it all. I really wish VIP and VEI could come to a settlement. That is a reason I feel VIP is just in it for the money, not the comics. If they had tons of ideas for books, it would be in their best interest to settle. Neither company is Marvel or DC. They both have much to loose. And by dragging this on, they are putting a sour taste in the mouth of many fans. Treating the ashcan as a sketch, it LOOKS like they may have some interesting ideas. But these days, could ideas mean squat. There have been plenty of comics that were good ideas, but fans didn't support them. This isn't the 90's where everybody and their brother bought comics. Comics are a much more niche market today and rely on the support of fans. Unless of course you are Marvel or DC and can just coast by on 2-3 massive franchises.

You know, the one that's like on this list of... "amendments"... it says something about how people are free to say whatever the hell they damn well please.... or words to that effect.
It's my understanding that laws like that one apply on msg boards and chat rooms like this one and that foreigners like me are protected as if we were turists.

The next time you talk to him, ask him what he would do if he found out VIPTim Petty wrote:You know in a way, VIP not having their own website is going to kill them. Let's say someone picked up the ashcan and was interested enough to look up Valiant on the web. Naturally they're going to come here, and what they'll find sure isn't going to convince them to support VIP.
Oh, btw....I was talking about this subject to my LCS owner today and he (being an old Valiant fan) told me there was no way he'd stock the VIP titles.
cool.
was already in the industry, potentially in his store... because according to Lovitz,
they are already in the industry, so they could be anywhere.

Thing is, a person can sue another for slander in a different country. It happens all the time. Look at how many American celebrities sue tabloids in different countries. Of course it is difficult when dealing with a website. But, the owner of the site could be liable for what is said. I am disappointed that Mr VIP lawyer is taking what is said here seriously. But I can see where the mods are coming from trying to clamp down. I'm sure the last thing Greg wants is to be served with court papers.

Then he should have asked.Brother J wrote:Geez, MOTA, give DJ a break...I wasn't familiar with the joking quote you used that started this, and I assume DJ wasn't either. It came off to someone not familiar with it as an obscenity filled tirade. I think they just want to avoid giving Lovitz more ammo to work with, makes the site look bad.

For me anyone who unjustly and unnecessarily censors though IS an enemy.X-O HoboJoe wrote:You mean he quoted me?Brother J wrote:It came off to someone not familiar with it as an obscenity filled tirade.![]()
Seriously though, DJ's not the enemy here . . . if he's got a reason to say whoa, I'm trusting it.
I didn't say anything wrong or anything that needed to be taken out. I made a JOKE, it's not my fault that it went over his head.

While I agree that there is no need for personal attacks, the chance of a law suit stemming from an internet message board are relatively slim. First there would have to be proof that said messages did real harm to the individul either emotionally or financially, difficult to prove off of a message board. Second, he represented himself as the public face of an LLC, it is my understanding that the laws of slander and libel are a very slippery slope when it comes to suing when you are a public figure. That is why celebrities rarely when cases against tabloids and when they do it is major news.
That being said, I don't feel that Lovitz is deserving of personal attacks. He has a job to do that is the interest of his client. Do we have to like his job? No. Do we have to like his client? No. But it is the job he is getting paid for. I have friends that are lawyers that have to be the bad guy sometimes, that is what they get paid for. They don't like it, but tough cookies, it pays the bills ( very well, I might add). And before you say that it is his choice, so what. If he didn't do it someone else would have, I don't think he is a bad guy because he represents VIP, I just wish he wouldn't have quoted some of you in that article.
