First There Was Unity, Then There Was Chaos... Now Comes...
(Disclaimer: Akin to a fantasy football game, this thread is for those who are interested in talking about VALIANT as it be 10 years after it ceased publication and how they think it would look as well as what concepts they think would be the best ones for the new owners to use at the beginning and how. Please don't post about DC Lite or VH 3 or any other nonesense like that, so no goats, no Quantum & Woody, nothing from VH 2 applies).
Resurgence, the VALIANT 2007 event.
A six issue mini series where each issue focuses on an individual VALIANT concept/world in stand alone stories that when combined tell a grander tale at the end of which the VALIANT heroes are fully established in the 21st Century.
Bloodshot (VALIANT World: Espionage)
Concept Summary: A decade after dissapearing in the Arctic tundra, Bloodshot's corpse is found by the Iwatsu Corporation, who subject it to a battery of tests in order to retrieve any and all remaining nanites within so they can use them in the creation of a new corporate warrior that will fight on their side against Harada's Eggbreakers, Bloodshot 2.0.
Rellying on a line up of volunteers from all over the world, Iwatsu finds the perfect specimen in Raymond Garrison, a former FBI undercover agent on the run from the black ops agents he betrayed.
Raymond's transformation into Bloodshot 2.0 inadvertingly leads to the original Bloodshot's revival as the nanites still within his body begin the incredible feat of resurecting what's left of his brain and body, yet despite their ability to reconstitude the physical the nanites are incapable of restoring his soul, thus leaving Michael Lazarus as a blank slate once more. Unable to recall any aspect from his previous life, the man formerlly known as Angelo Mortalli, must find out who he was not only before his latest resurection but also who he was before he became Bloodshot the first time, his only clue being an encoded data file disc that holds a video image of his father.
To complicate matters Iwatsu sends Bloodshot 2.0 against the original nanite-enhanced hero on a mission to stop him before he reveals their breakthroughs to the world and Harada attacks before they are ready to defend themselves.
Elsewhere, Bloodshot's children and Deathangel, the woman who once was Jillian Alcott and Bloodshot's lover, are captured by Harada's operatives and taken to an instalation where the children are killed in experiments designed to analize their unusual nanite-based structure while Jillian herself has all the nanites within her body removed as part of Harada's quest for inmortallity.
Eternal Warrior (VALIANT World: Action-Adventure)
Concept Summary: For the better part of the last decade Gilad, the Eternal Warrior, has witnessed as the world has become increasingly darker, specially in the years following the first salvo in Harada's Corporate Wars against Omen, Iwatsu, Orb, and any others that stand on his way.
Reunited with his brothers Aram and Ivar, as well as Aram's would-be sidekick Archer, Gilad's lead a safe - some might say sheltered - life, but all of this comes to an end when fed up with current events Ivar vanishes into the time stream while Archer, unable to stand idly by and watch his fellow man suffer decides to take a proactive role in stopping Harada's war machine before it destroys any more lives. Alongside the former Harbinger renegade Flamingo, Archer takes the first steps toward creating a peace movement known somewhat derogatorily in the streets as "The Archies" whose main goal is to provide shelter from the conflict to anyone who seeks it.
As the world around him plunges deeper and deeper into darkness, Gilad takes a vow to ensure that the light won't go out no matter the cost as he takes the fight directly against Harada.
Harbinger (VALIANT World: Intrigue)
Concept Summary: From atop his spire atop Harbinger Tower in New York City Toyo Harada lives a life of luxury while the world around him is embroiled in the bloodiest race war the world has ever seen.
Three years ago Harada began a series of Corporate Wars designed to take over all of his competitors, but soon this war moved from the boardroom into the streets as Harbingers, the next-step of human evolution, began to sprout out in bigger numbers all around the world (thanks in no small part to Harada's ability to activate the Harbinger's hidden abilities within their mind).
As the Harbinger subculture (akin to the goths, Wiccans, and other shunned pockets of "deviant" lifestyles before it) grew in number and questionable behaviour around them, the "normal" people of the world, acting in fear, deevolved into racist behaviour unlike any seen in 60 years, behaviour that lead the Harbinger populace to defend itself as best it could, thus Harada's dream of Harbinger supremacy took its first step toward conquering the world... yet, in the light hidden within the shadows hope for both sides of the conflict exist in the form of Pete Stanchek and his rag-tag band of Harbinger renegades, a small group of former Harbinger Corporation students who, 10 years earlier, decided to stop Harada from achieving his dream.
Under Peter's leadership, the Harbinger 8 (as his small band of fugitive Harbinger terrorists is known) fight against Harbingers and normals alike in their quest to bring peace to a fractured world.
Mirage (VALIANT World: Supernatural)
Concept Summary: As the daughter of Hwen Mirage (who died valiently shortly after Jack Boniface destroyed the Darque power in 99), 10 year old Candra Mirage is the most powerful necromancer on the face of the world (akin to Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars or Wyatt from Charmed), which makes her a target for those who survived the death of Master Darque and the drying of the Darque pool, like Sandria Darque, who like a vampire needs to suck in the lifeforce of beings like Candra in order to survive.
Living on the balance between good and evil, light and darque, Candra's a novice in the use of her powers, as well as being no more than a child that still depends on others, like her mother, in order to survive.
When agents working for Sandria capture Candra she is rescued by a most unexpected saviour, the Shadow Man, aka Michael Leroi, a hitman who back in 1999 was hired by Sandria herself to kill Mamma Nettie but failed in his assignment when the voodoo priestest captured his soul in a jar and turned him into a zombie that followed her every command.
Recently Nettie died from natural causes, which released Michael from her control. As a result of Nettie's magics the last eight years are a void for Michael, whose last memory is their encounter in 99. Also unbeknownst to Michael he now shares his body with Jack Boniface's soul, who following Darque's demise was catapulted into the world of Deadside, a netherealm created by Darque's energies where all the souls touched by the Darque power were pulled into at the moment of his destruction.
While on Deadside Jack's constantly hunted by Darque's minions, who under orders from their master want to bring him to Darque's tower so he can use him as a portal back to the real world since as soon as the sun sets on the mortal realm Jack is once more able to walk as a man within Michael's body, while Michael's soul travels to Deadside.
Michael by day, Jack by night, Shadowman lives again...
Rai (VALIANT World: Mysticism)
Concept Summary: The Guardian Spirit of Japan, Rai is the name given to the current bearer of the individual chosen by Godmother to protect her nation. While usually given to the first born of a certain lineage, over the centuries many men from different families have gone by the name Rai.
An anthology series, Rai explores the life of each individual chosen to carry on the burden of protector, stretching from the first Rai until the latest and all inbetween.
X-O Manowar (VALIANT World: Science Fiction)
Concept Summary: Recently hired to work for Orb Industries, Donovan Wiley and Renata are soon thereafter contacted by the Good Skin through a video game. Once part of the powerful X-O Manowar, the Good Skin has been broken into individual parts (some kept at Orb HQ and others spread out across the planet) while Aric's kept in stasis within a virtual reality simulator designed to keep him docile and perpetually clueless as to what happens in the outside world.
The Good Skin uses Donovan and Renata to rescue Aric from his virtual prison. Once free Aric dons the few pieces of the armor that Donovan and Renata are able to find within the building (the helmet and a gauntlet) and uses them to break them free.
With Donovan and Renata by his side, Aric searches the globe for the missing pieces of his armor while at the same time he acclimates himself into the darker world that's come as a result of Harada's war.

that looks really good mike! very interesting plot synopsises (SP?)
you run any of this by dino?
the one weakness i see is the rai storyline. not even sure that it is really necessary.
at the top of the post you mentioned that nothing from vh-2 was to be considered, but it looks like you threw a little in there. i'm not complaing-it reminds me of what shooter seemed to be trying to do with u-2000.
good work.

The VH 2 names are there only because I figured that since Dino paid for the characters then at least he should be able to use the names if not the apperances/histories.
I mean, if XO uses an Orb scientist and his assistant why not call them Donovan and Renata? There's really no point in giving them new names if Dino already has enough that could be used, right?
For example, just because he's called Michael Leroi and is a hitman it doesn't mean he has anything else in common with the VH 2 version, like the teddy bear and car accident.
I do agree that Rai seems somewhat unncessary but I felt like there needs to be a future series and between Rai and Psi-Lords the former seemed to make more sense. Also, Rai can be used to tell pre Magnus stories while VE gets the rights to use Magnus again.

MOTA, your post was a good read.... I liked it....
now I just wish someone would draw it too....
a few comments:
I like the Shadowman idea.... I haven't read any other Shadowman besides Jack... but I like the "othr guy" by day... and Jack by night.... it feels true to the orginal concept...
I agree that Pete needs to be in the VALIANT uni. (I have not read any Visitor.. so I don't know what happened to him) your concept for Harby sounds good... I think it is true to the original version...
but it does remind me of a comic I read... it is "What if (series II , I think) What if Wloverine became lord of the Vampires... or something like that... the idea of the normal people being attacked by the vampires (Harbingers)....and waring with in themselves too... not that it's bad... I like it... I just wanted to reference another comic, because most of the time I have no idea what people are talking aobut when they talk about non-VALIANT comics....
I want the EW to be kick butt... 'nuff said! (so don't make him a recluse for to long....)
a few more....
I'm not sure what happened to Darque.... (have not got the books yet
) but he has to be in the VALIANT uni. reguardless if he died.... somehow, some way.... me gusta Darque!
I think that Toyo need to be more directly invloved in stuff.... I would like him to be more promenent in the stories.....
the more Armstrong the better!
We need one more superbad guy.... maybe the evil bloodshot.... or maybe a badguy from the future with (using the lost land to time travel) futuristic weapons and powers.... maybe an evil Shadowman from the future!
MOTA... that was a well written and well though out post.... thanks for sharing.....

I don't deny that vampires as a whole inspired the idea but this happens because as far as subcultures go the vampires are the ones who've been explored deeper than others.
I was also somewhat inspired by the fifth season of Babylon 5 and the telepath subculture, how they had their own customs, clothing styles, etc, etc. That's what I'd like to see with the Harbingers, the creation of a new subculture.
It be like Beneath the Planet of the Apes and the worshipers of the atom bomb. The bomb was their God, right? So who do Harbingers pray to?
Because of the "Children of the Eight Day" idea a Harbinger religion could be an off shoot of Judaism in the same way that Christianity is an off shoot of Judaism, no?
Definitely. As always, all Gilad needs is a cause to fight for.Elveen wrote:I want the EW to be kick butt... 'nuff said! (so don't make him a recluse for to long....)
I see Darque as ruler of Deadside, and he's confined there until he can find a way back to the mortal realm through Jack's shadowman tattoo.Elveen wrote:a few more....

Agreed. I see Harada and the war as the glue that holds the mini series together.Elveen wrote:I think that Toyo need to be more directly invloved in stuff.... I would like him to be more promenent in the stories...
I forgot Aram, lol.Elveen wrote:the more Armstrong the better!
We do need a new villain, I agree with that, but it should be one that doesn't replicate what Harada and Darque bring to the table.Elveen wrote:We need one more superbad guy.... maybe the evil bloodshot.... or maybe a badguy from the future with (using the lost land to time travel) futuristic weapons and powers.... maybe an evil Shadowman from the future!
Ideally there should be one all powerful villain for every world. Harada comes from the world of intrigue and Darque comes from the world of the supernatural. We need one for the world of espionage (Silk?), one for the world of action-adventure (this one would be interesting to fill), one for the world of mysticism (Anti-Grannies?), and one for the world of science fiction (Spider-Aliens?).

The solicits were full page, full color ads for each individual title with short summaries for the concept and the issue in question.

you know, in looking for another BIG bad guy...for the rai series you might be able to use erica...she woulda been around during that time frame no? hanging out in/around japan hiding out before she made her way to the lost land (solar 12) she did not go the lost land until august 5, 4001. you could have here there trying to aquire the stuff she needs, but being forced to remain in the shadows for fear of being discovered by solar...when did grandmother first create rai?

MotherGod could be a good antagonist for Rai if the series follows the philosophy of being caught between two mothers aka two ideologies.August, 3050: Due to an unprecedented power surge, the island-wide network that encompasses Japan becomes Freewill and begins thinking and acting independently. The Japanese christen their mechanical keeper, "Grandmother"
May, 3216: Sho Shugino, the second Rai, takes the Blood of heroes from a group of Anti-Grannies. Bloodshot's blood is given to Grandmother for safekeeping
The series could focus on the second Rai and follow up on the events from Secrets of the VALIANT Universe #3, where he was approached by Erica in the Lost Land.
Alternatively it could also focus on a pre-Lost Land Erica, as you suggest, living in hidding, though I'm not sure of how that would work exactly.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Let's just go with it - until we know otherwise, Erica is fair game.ManofTheAtom wrote:Damn, there's a problem.
Could VALIANT use Erica/MotherGod, or is it like Solar and because she was introduced in his series she's considered a part of what Random House owns?

Well, in that case then Erica would be a perfect villain for Rai, pitting him against his beliefs and Grandmother's.
Like, would Rai, pushed into it by Erica, want to take revenge on Grandmother?
Did he ever leave the Lost Land or did he stay there until Unity? In fact, what happened to him after Unity?
These and other questions would make for a great Rai series, and if they can be linked in some way to the Harbinger Wars then it would strengthen the link with the rest of the event.

Every war has its commander and his generals. Harada was the commander of the Harbinger Wars, but what happened to his generals and other underlings after he was defeated in 2999?
We know HARD Corps left for space and the Harbingers were reintegrated into society to the point that powers and such vanished from the gene pool (which by itself is an interesting question. Did Harbinger abilities vanish or did Harbingers stop appearing because there was no one to "pop" them?).
Could these underlings have escaped to North Am and eventually become part of Erica's Unity movement? If so, that would mean that the people living with Erica during Rai's time in 3216 could be the sons and daughters of those underlings.

not to go all Bible on yous guys....
but this could be like a future version of the Nephilim form Genesis 6:4...
Gen 6:4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
but instead of "the mighty men who were of old..." .... mighty men of the future!
(Nephilim is the Hebrew word for the dudes mentioned here)

Book of Exodus 32, verse 16
The Bible and religion plays an important part of Harbinger (the name, Children of the Eight Day), so it would make sense to adapt Exodus for what happens to Harada's followers after the War's over.
The War is for those underlings what leaving Egypt was for the Hebrew. The underlings were without a home, no where to go, and Erica needed followers to complete her plan.
It stands to reason that during the war Erica stayed appraised of everything that happened, so surely she took the opportunity opened by Harada's fall to take over anything she could of his.
There's your MotherGod right there. The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tables.
