End of 2006 Man-cave Thread
I am resurrecting the old man-cave image thread for the end of the year. As I recall, some time ago we had a cool one going where everyone was posting collection images, or organization images. Let's do it again! I know we'll have takers for this, and I'm certain that the more people that post, the more will respond and post their own collections! Can we do this, guys?

This is my hord. Just in my bedroom on top of the dresser.
The top container's about 8 ft. off the ground so it's hard to reach. (it's got my 3 cgc's in it, did the see through container idea that Greg suggested)
All valiant except for one long box.

Hey man, I recently took care of this problem with a steel frame shelving system that I built 2x3 supports for underneath each shelf. It's rock solid now and you can probably buy one @ Menards or Depot for 50 bucks. I'd say if you get the shorter, longer one, each shelf can hold 5 longboxes without warping (provided you add the supports I added). At three shelves each, that would get your collection off the floor, more organized and further away from those paper eating bugs that love that kind of thing in a carpeted room! Just FYI

Thanks for sharing the hoard, man. I'll reciprocate with some pix of my own shortly....

Here's how I store my collection (note that this stuff is completely seperate from anything Iron Man... that stuff has it's own.... well you'll see an example below).

I braced each shelf in four places along the span with standard 2x3 lateral bracing for support. Note that each shelf is holding 5 longboxes with no sagging. I fastened the braces with standard sheet metal screws which tapped right through the racking arm.

This is what I drew on top of my Valiant boxes. It's easy to maintain the symmetry with a little math, a ruler and some patience w. a thick black marker.

This is a snippet of my Iron Man collection. Knightt has seen the whole thing, so he can testify that's it's more encompassing than this.

Yeah, its the biggest room in our house. Its my Comic Collection/Office/Exercise Room (Treadmill and weights not seen). My wife is tolerant because she knows there aint no way Im parting with my collection. And she has her own stash too on the other side. It is a shame though. The room is huge. If those comics werent there, I could put a couch and watch tv in there. We are studying options on shelving/storage. The bike is my kid's. He never rides it. I should have moved it when I took that picture. Ah well...ibreakhorses wrote:Yeah, that room looks bigger than my apartment.iccarus wrote:gowaltrip: mind if I show that picture to my wife the next time she complains about my "small" collection taking up too much space?
Maybe it's just the angle of the photo, but that row of long boxes looks longer than our bedroom

Lol, thanks a lot dude. My logic is that if I'm gonna have some kind of collection that is inherently tacky as hell, then I want to make it as classy looking and as organized as possible. That way it doesn't look like a bunch of toys and statues, but rather it looks like an honest to God collection. I have more cases than this, and the two statue shelves pictured above are only two of many, actually. I also have a few other cases, one of which is an Avengers case with a shelf for "villains" and a shelf for "Avengers."gowaltrip wrote:Ive never been much on toy collecting, but I must say. That is one of the sweetest collections of toys put together on one shelf that Ive ever seen.
Most dudes just dont coordinate a shelve of toys very well. You look like you put some thought into it.
The idea is to take the nerdom out of this, add a museum quality and turn this into a collection as respectable as any train collector, baseball card collector, miniature collector, etc.

Cool stuff, IMJ.
My mancave has gravitated more towards video games these days ... I'm gonna have to upgrade my house and get another room for my comic book stuff. I built shelves in a couple of my closets to store comics; I keep a bunch more in the attic and under some stairs. Nothing really display-worthy, though.

Man cave...what a cool concept!
Most of my stuff is stored in an attic and a closet right now. One day I hope to get a new place with more space and set up a man cave. Rock on!

Here's how it is.
IMJ’s Lists of Facts Regarding Board Member Collections:
(reminder to all of my V-board brothers, we are all unique in some way… read on)
Knightt has an amazing Marvel bust collection (that in a day or so should be getting even more amazing
).
Hulk181man has an awesome vintage Marvel flicker ring collection.
Elveen’s collection may be new, but due to board member recommendations it’s all quality.
Greg likely has the best collection of Valiant CGC’s in existence.
Comxfan has an organization about his longboxes that puts the U.S. Library of Congress to shame. His collection also shares space with really nice carpeting and a fly pool table.
Magnusr has a looming tower of comics over him whenever he is in his mancave, yet he also has some of the best framed original art this side of the Marvel headquarters.
Our dear, and missed friend TColli had a simple way of organizing and viewing his collection in an uncluttered and precise fashion.
MrBigFeathas (whom most of you might not remember) has an impressive Spider-Man collection.
Boda Zofa has a great set of commissions, and really appreciates the entire art process, including not only the linework, but the inking as well.
See what you can decipher and learn about your friends if you listen well?
