Ghost Rider #8 – Casualties of War

So, I’ve been getting all the Civil War crossovers and this one came up. I like the Ghost Rider character so I was looking forward to reading it . .

****Spoilers****

So first lets talk about the art . . . it was cartoony at times, a little inconsistent, sometimes bad and sometimes really good. Overall though I liked it. It is dark and helps set the mood of the book well. The book itself had pretty much no Ghost Rider in it, but it sets things up for the next issue and the opening page explained where the new series is headed.

Ghost rider has bartered himself out of hell . . . . again, and this time Lucifer has been let out as well. Lucifer has exploded (or something like that) into 666 pieces and each piece has taken over a dead body. Very neat idea in my opinion. As Ghosty dispatches each Lucifer zombie he finds, the remaining zombies get stronger and so on until the obvious climatic battle against the insanely powerful last zombie. Sounds like a good recipe for death and destruction.

Most of this issue is all set up, but I actually liked the way it tied in to Civil War. All I’ll say is that someone that bought the farm in CW is back to life via a piece of Lucifer. Looking forward to next issue

Ghost Rider has been solid so far. Great montly. If you are looking for more really good tie ins, I really like the Winter Soldier:Winter Kills.

That cover looks ridiculous...I mean, come on, comics are a visual medium...WTF is that? "Yippee, I have a Jack-o-lantern"

Replace "Ghosty" with "Gabriel Law"
and
replace "each Lucifer zombie" with "each alternate self"

...and you get the plot of the Jet Li movie "THE ONE".

:P

I just finished up the Ghost Rider / Jack-O-Lantern story (yeah, I'm a bit behind) and I must say it's one of the best story arcs in the new series so far!
