History of the big Ninjak card
This might shed some light on it. Thought I had one, and the letter that came with it. (from my retailer days).
Looked in my card album, and found something similar. Only instead of a card, it is the chromium Window decal. (measures 4.75 x 7.75). The letter reminded me that this came with that month's bundle of Valiant Voice. It instructed us to hang it prominently (which I didn't, shame on me!). When Ninjak #1 shipped to the store, if we took a picture holding the book and standing by the decal, they would reward us with a Gold Ninjak #1!
They went all out with the marketing campaign on this book, so I'm wondering if Brother J's card wasn't something that they may have sent to fans for doing something similar, since the gold logo book was for the retailers. They were always offering cool swag in return for in-store pics of Valiant displays, etc.
Just an idea, may be wrong. Won't be the first time.

not wrong entirely
Not wrong about the Gold book being a retailer incentive in this case (and have the letter from them stating so). It wasn't an exclusive to retailers either, didn't mean to insinuate that. What I am probably wrong on is my guess on the origin of the oversized card.......
We were sent gold books from time to time by Valiant to use for in-store promotions. I believe I probably got about 10 different ones, and even got 10 copies of Ninjak #1 gold one day in the mail from them. Their marketing rep at the time was very store friendly (Paul Fairchild I believe), and we got sent many different premium books. Couldn't be a reward, cause we were buying about 2 of each title overall (1 for me, 1 for one of my customers).
We did try to push Valiant stuff, and I periodically would pick a title and order some extra copies to try and get new readers. I contacted them directly about my plans several times, so maybe they were just rewarding me for my efforts.
Guess that's why I really liked the company from a retailer standpoint. They worked with us in trying to promote their stuff, instead of just giving us the "privilege" to sell it to others.....
