Concrete Jungle Vs Black Panther

Post by ManofTheAtom »

Were any of you VH 2 fans lucky enough to get a copy of Concrete Jungle #1 from Acclaim?

Of those who did, did any of you also happen to get Black Panther #1 by Priest?

Is it just me, or were the plots strickingly similar?

You're reading Acclaim! :o

Yes, they seem a bit similar. You have to remember that Concrete Jungle was cancelled due to a lawsuit. I am sure that Christopher Priest wanted to use as much of the work as he could so he recycled it as best he could while removing the lawsuit concerning information.

Just my thoughts. I will email Christopher Priest and see if I get a response. :thumb:

Lawsuit?

I just checked Priest's website and he said that it was canceled due to Acclaim shutting down Acclaim Comics. :?

I got the only copy of Concret Jungle in the entire country, heh. And it was sheer luck, I found it on a rack at a comic store.

Doesn't it sound a lot better to say it was cancelled due to Acclaim shutting down than because of a lawsuit? :hm:

He had no problem blaming the previous VALIANT management for Acclaim Comics shutting down.

What was the lawsuit about?

Unfortunately, I do not have any details about it. Maybe someone who was there can help out. Walter, do you know anything about this? :?

The goat sued Acclaim for breach of contract.

Originally it was going to be called Concrete Jungle: The Legend of Vincent Van Goat and the Legion of Super-Heroes.

From what I remember...

Concrete Jungle was scheduled to be a four-issue mini series. After the publication of issue #1, the line was cancelled along with all the other Acclaim comics at the time.

Years later (2002?), an individual from Canada sued Acclaim over the comic for copyright and trademark infringment, having seen it listed on the Acclaim Comics website and then finding a copy of Issue #1. He said stupid things like he had something similar concept, name, etc. He had no case but would not go away.

The case was still pending when Acclaim filed bankruptcy from what I remember.

Hope that helps.

Oh, I thought that the lawsuit was that Marvel wanted to retroactively sue Acclaim for using the plot from Black Panther #1.

You know how lawsuit-happy Marvel is, heh.
