So Valiant's website opens 2/15/08 right? The New York Toy Fair opens 2/17/08. I'm sure there are a million reasons to open the website on 2/15/08 but wouldn't it be cool if they gave their hard core fans a couple days advance view of upcoming merchandise and that's why they would choose 2/15/08? A lot of the custom figures showcased here in the past have been great and it would be cool to own actual Valiant U figures. So with the big retailer event if Valiant had some product they wanted to show case nationally this would be a can't miss event. But after keeping us waiting (through no fault of their own of course dang you vip) for a year it would be a nice gift don't you think?

That would be nice to see them produce action figures

I would be cool to see some nicely done action figures. I would guess that they would want to wait and introduce stuff like that after the books come out though. If they were to put some out before that I would certainly buy them.

I haven't bought an action figure since the early 90's, but i think i would make an exception for an X-O or Shadowman figure. Or a solar,Gilad, archer and Armstrong,Magnus,Rai,Harbinger kids, Bloodshot,Harada,.....Actually, now that i think about it, i would buy just about any VH1 character :D
I used to play with them, but i don't think i'm allowed to do that as an adult.
Is that allowed? Anyone? :?

Yes, yes.. display them... but arrange them often. Of course, to get the best layout, one must remove them and set them on the table or floor or whatever surface is available.. and one must also recreate a memorable situation that the collectible figure experienced, just to make sure the arrangement, while being displayed, looks appropriate and represents the spirit of said collectibles being displayed.

:?

Thats my story, and Im sticking to it.

Warning this time of arrangement MUST be complete after the 9:00 bedtime of arrangers young children.

My son asked me the other day why I don't play with my figures. He says to me "How come you just set your figures up on the shelves and don't play with them?" while at the same time looking at me like I'm weird for not playing with them.

I basically just told him "I don't play with them because I want to keep them in perfect condition". :)

Hahaha....when my nephew comes over (he's 10) he always asks me a million questions like that too.

I hope they dont produce toys so early on. I think VEI needs to take it slow. They have been out of the loop for so long, and their products so unwanted, i cant see mass producing some toys when there is really no demand for them. If they were to go too crazy from the get go, you would see a bankrupt vei.

Truthfully, I just don't see them expending the capital to produce action figures at this stage. We are talking about a dead universe with a handful of die hard fans. Most new people aren't going to go into a store and start buying comics based on action figures they saw (I guess). My guess is that it works the other way around. Comics (or TV/Movies) first, then action figures.

Although I know Rom was an action figure first, right?

VEI could do action figures that have mini comics reprints of the original stories a la He-Man.

My concern is that some of the VALIANT concepts aren't exactly... friendly for the "4 years and up" or "6 years and up" demographic that mainstream toys aim for.

"Kids, now you can own your very own Armstrong action figure, with "beer drinking" action!"

"Presenting "Mothergod's bedroom", where you can recreate the famous "incest seduction scene" from Unity!"

"Bloodshot comes with his own machine gun and knife-wielding action to take out Carboni's mob boys!"

Some of the VALIANT characters are more action figure-friendly than others, like X-O Manowar or Rai, but others....

Apart from ROM all of those properties had a 30 minute commercial for their products every morning - or at least on Saturday mornings . . .

So what you're saying is that VEI needs to get some cartoons made.

Agreed :P

Let's see, which concepts are more cartoon friendly (that is, which concepts stand the better chance of being translated into toons without being diluded like has happened to other comics that become toons)?

Rai would be a great toon with a message a la He-Man. I envision every episode ending with Rai standing on a platform watching the sunset talking with Grandmother about the episode's events and learning a morale (the Rai should definitely be Tohru).

Armorines would be a very good toon a la GI Joe. Tons of action with military men fighting alien spiders instead of cobras. Armorines is VERY animation friendly, as well as action figure friendly (specially with American society).

Eternal Warrior, Geomancer, or Timewalker might work as toons, but at least EW would need to be toned down a bit, have less blood. Geomancer could also be a toon with a message, but not as kiddie like Captain Planet, while Timewalker could help kids with their history lessons.

One of the benefits of having an 8-year-old son is getting to "play" with toys again. We had a huge space battle with Star Wars ships in the basement last night! I may get old, but I'll never grow up.

True they made the cartoon after the action figures.
Transformers
Yup. And with GIJoe. And I listed Rom. :P

MASK was a action figure? Before Dark Horse put it out?

Anyway, let's take away those 80's cartoons. NOW how many action figures came out before comics? :)

Actually, I shold have clarified my comments first. Presumably VEI goal is to publish comics (or some other media, but hopefully comics}. Many of those things you listed (Transformers, GIJoe, He-man) started off as action figures, and once they were very popular, presumably branched out into comics and cartoons. But my guess is that they didn't start off with the goal os "let's start with an action figure, then move to media).

IMO, there is a difference between an action figure that becomes so ppopular that they want to make more money with cartoons and comics, and using an action figure to drive popularity for a future planned release of comics.

Rom might have followed that latter model, because if I recall, the comic started coming out right around the same time as the action figure, right?

Chris
