Behind the Scenes of HARBINGER: THE BEGINNING

Post by dino »

With X-O MANOWAR: BIRTH arriving in stores later this month I thought it might be fun to post some behind the scenes images of what the recoloring and remastering process entails. I dug up some tests we did for HARBINGER: THE BEGINNING.

Below are a sample of some of the many tests we did with different colorists and different processes of stripping color from the original books.

The process has evolved again for X-O MANOWAR: BIRTH. The new pages are far superior to the Harbinger recoloring.

The entire book was originally going to be relettered. The new lettering proved to be too clean, distracting from the story, and a font with the right tone was not available.

This page is also an early version of the recoloring. Note the lights in the post office and the gradient effect for the time/location boxes. The gradient effect was scrapped because the gradient made the boxes look like the yellow color had run out. X-O MANOWAR: BIRTH will feature a gradient effect that has been much improved for the time/location boxes.

A lot of time was taken looking for the right eye effect for Sting. Below are some of the sample effects we considered and the one that was ultimately used.

X-O MANOWAR: BIRTH is much more effect heavy that Harbinger and similar time was taken to find the right sfx for the various effects ie X-O Manowars Ion Cannon blasts, the spider alien gun blasts etc.

There were a few close in style to the one we used. I put together five of the more deviant effects for you guys to see.

Oh my! I haven't got my hands on either of the hard backs yet, but the way they've been jazzed up is insane! To be honest I thought the digitally restored thing was just something that was going to be chucked on the front cover (sorry if that offends) but the quality there is NUTS! Gunna have to save pennys again...
