Lets face it. The boards are not what they used to be.Elveen wrote:I don't like these times.jedimarley wrote:Times have changed, my friend.cinlach@aol.com wrote:Ok, selling Alyssa's book is NOT COOL.
Sad. But true.
I know who's selling and why. So I'll do my part to help them and CF at the same time.

This is my favorite part of the auctions:
"I can not afford to donate it all but I will be making a donation of 25% of the proceeds from my three Cystic Fibrosis auctions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation."
The seller "can not afford" to donate the money they are going to get for these...even though it's found money to begin with, and they did nothing to earn it.
"I can't afford to donate the massive profit I stand to make. I can't afford to donate the money that isn't really mine to begin with."

You know someone is going to make the argument "They paid for them. They can do what they want with them".ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:This is my favorite part of the auctions:

I remember when Chris auctioned the "Fighting" books. How about the Alyssa book? Was that copy auctioned or from the sign-up?Elveen wrote:Not mine.

Oh, they're not so bad. Look at the Svair computer fund raiser. Chainball managed to get enough to buy a new tower for him.Elveen wrote:I don't like these times.jedimarley wrote:Times have changed, my friend.cinlach@aol.com wrote:Ok, selling Alyssa's book is NOT COOL.
It's nice that we still have members that care to give like that. So I don't think this board is that bad at all.
Well, not yet.

I don't think you know who's selling these. It's my brother. And he's not a board member. We both collected Valiant "back in the day" and then we both began to recollect Valiant about 4 years ago. He stopped, I didn't. But, anyway, that's when he bought these books. From Ebay, and seemingly from the original owner.
I offered to buy them from him myself, but with all the money I've spent recently on other books, I just can't afford to offer a fair price. And I felt guilty about lowballing him just because he's my brother. So I told him to go ahead and put them up on Ebay, where I'm sure he'll make more than I would have been willing to pay at this time.

That's not fair at all. He paid his money for these books years ago when he was collecting Valiant. Now he's no longer collecting, so he's giving other Valiant fans that are more interested in owning this than he is the opportunity to do just that, own a unique Valiant collectable.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:This is my favorite part of the auctions:

What would you rather he do? Let it sit in a box in his room collecting dust? Or because he's no longer interested in it, perhaps he should just give it away to someone else? He doesn't need to donate ANY of the profits to CF, but he is. Who are you to say that he's not donating enough of the profits? That's not fair.
He's my brother, so I'm obviously going to be prone to defend him. But I don't think that detracts from the points I'm trying to make.

Yes. From someone named Chris ... something. He still has the packaging it arrived in, with the name and address of the person he bought it from. I'm at work now (hence why I'm posting on valiantfans.com...ha), so I can't check. But, I know the name was Chris [something].dbostejano wrote:So he bought these from ebay?PeteCole333 wrote: He stopped, I didn't. But, anyway, that's when he bought these books. I don't know Chris so this is not an attack at him, PeteCole333 or anybody that has sold or selling their board projects.
For the last month to month and a half I've been trying to come up with a plan to get a board project going at the halloween comics board. It's difficult in that the powers that be are not interested in helping me out. I've got some great ideas for board projects (ofcourse stealing blue prints from here) but it seems that the writers and artists are too busy to help me out.
I hope some of you older members understand how lucky you are to have something like this that adds something special to this site.
If my project would go through and some one sold it on ebay for profit, I wouldn't be upset. But there isn't the same comraderie there that you get here. I guess what it comes down to, is that some people place less value on the friendships made on this board than others. To each his own.

The current eBay listing says he purchased it from Chris Scott, who is Knightt on the boards and put the whole thing together. It doesn't surprise me that the #1 book ended up on eBay as a fundraiser. If I only wasn't old as dirt and could remember stuff from 4 years ago... Does your brother remember how much he won it for? There's a number of things pictured there that did not come with the other "regular" package - not surprising either since it makes sense to add stuff to the auction copy to drive up interest.PeteCole333 wrote:Yes. When I divested myself of (nearly) all my project books because of the board attitude about them, this was the hardest one to let go. I ended up asking for double what I wanted for it and donated half to CF.
By selling the #1 copy with 25% to CF, the listing will likely generate more for CF than what each book sold to board members did.
This was always my favorite CF protect. With all the art extras, I can't recommend it more highly. If you are someone attached to the board, its members and enjoy hearing Knight's stories and news about Alyssa and their fight against CF, this auction is for you.
