freerice.com
my daughter came home from school yesterday all excited about this website the high school is promoting called freerice.com
i don't know much about it, except to say that it looks really cool, and i know that many of you here on the boards have a heart for giving-so i thought i'd pass it on.
there are many catagories for you to test your knowledge-vocab, math geography etc...and for every right answer 20 grains of rice is donated. the site says that sponsors pay for the rice-so you don't even have to send money anywhere, or give a credit card.
so if the boards are slow, and you've got the time, why not check it out and feed somebody in the process.
oh, one more thing, there is no penalty for wrong answers, so don't worry that your ignorance might result in food being taken away from some poor child!

Didn't notice the levels. Gotta look out for that next time. I will have my kids practice their multiplication tables with this site. Vocabulary was many Latin words which worked well for me. Also tried capitals and French.dave wrote:i rocked the foreign language sections...
not as good at grammar as i thought-level 5 was my best...english vocab my high was 34 of 60, i think.
what did you work on?
Great site.

did you guys check out the part of the site that has the totals for donations?
the us is dead last (on the list) giving 16 cents on every 100 dollars of income while norway was tops giving 95 cents. in fact all the countries out your way mags were up on top.
didn't find a latin section. where was that?
i'm feeling a little dendroid for missing it.

Sorry, talked about the English vocabulary. I meant to say that the vocabulary section was easier for me than it could have been because I know some French and therefore recognize many words with Latin origin. Even found a pure Swedish word which probably is difficult for you. That helped me to reach level 36 (wanted to beat youdave wrote:didn't find a latin section. where was that?
