Original gold key Magnus art for sale

Post by Crow331 »

This looks really nice! Thought someone here might be interested. I would be interested but that auction estimate is a bit out of my range ;) A nice vintage cover from famous pulp cover artist Vic Prezio. Magnus, Robot Fighter #11

Well the estimate is $3200-$4800 and normally I would say this might not make it to that price, but the artist, Vic Prezio, is a pretty well known and a popular artist so I would suspect that it will get to that range

I just posted another one of Vic Prezio's cool pulp art covers (not comic book related) on my website www.pulpillustrationart.com if you want to check it out. It's the "image of the week"

Fascinating that Heritage lists it as Vic Prezio on ebay, but as George Wilson on their own site. I would actually say that it looks more like Wilson. Btw, I will bid on this and can always hope that the current crises will hold back the competition.

EDIT: They have changed the artist on their site. The catalogue still says Wilson of course. Wonder what they have found to change their minds?

Where do you see that?

This is from the site

Vic Prezio Magnus, Robot Fighter #11 Cover Original Art (Gold Key, 1965)

Vic Prezio Magnus, Robot Fighter #11 Cover Original Art (Gold Key, 1965). "Magnus invades the domain of the mastermind whose beasts of steel terrorize North Am." Before there was the Matrix, there was Magnus, Robot Fighter! With both apes and robots, this smashing Magnus cover is sure to be a collector's delight. This piece has an overall size of 15.25" x 18.25", and aside from two registration stickers on the left and right edges, the art is in Excellent condition.

You just missed my edit :D

When I saw the auction on their site a few weeks ago it said Wilson, as in the catalogue. Also the technique reminds me very much of issue 2, which is by Wilson.

YA EDIT: The background looks like Wilson, but the rendition of Magnus himself is more like Prezio. :hm:

:D same time I posted :P

You should shoot HA an email and ask them how they know. You probably would get this much cheaper if this wasn't a Prezio. Find the proof and get them to change it back :thumb: I looked for about 10 minutes and couldn't find anything

You know, I have the feeling that when I saw it the first time, I felt that the estimate was close enough to my budget. Now I don't feel that anymore. So, I don't remember for sure, but I think they have upped their estimate quite a lot.

Have you bought many pieces of art like this magnus? How do shipping prices/customs work into the equation?

Only have three like this 8-) :cloud9:

Customs work unpleasantly into the equation. Luckily art has a comparably low fee (12%), but it still hurts.
