I had thought at the very least, they would be pimping what they already have. I'm a little disappointed.Daniel Jackson wrote:Can't say I'm surprised. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll see anything from them this year.turborip wrote:
By the by...I just got in the latest list of exhibitors for SDCC and I don't see VEI anywhere on the current list.

You, me and a lot of people. I would hope those people also include Dino & Crew.turborip wrote:I had thought at the very least, they would be pimping what they already have. Yeah, anything is better than not showing up.Elveen wrote:Daniel Jackson wrote:I think so too. I still can't believe they didn't show up at the NY Con.Elveen wrote:IMO, they needed a booth at SDCC, even just for the HC.
You know, just a small booth. Showing the HCs, pimping the website. That's all.

hopefully the silence means they are working hard and keeping everything underwraps because the next thing is what we all hope for NEW BOOKS!

That's what's so disturbing. I mean, it's been a long time since I've been to a Con of any substantial size, and I underrstand the booth space at SDCC may be expensive, but considering then names and the small press and the artist's alley people I'm already seeing signed up, I can't imagine VEI not having some sort of draw considering they already have ESTABLISHED PRODUCT!Daniel Jackson wrote:Yeah, anything is better than not showing up.Elveen wrote:Daniel Jackson wrote:I think so too. If the poor *SQUEE* pimping his first title featuring an unknown cast through a small press publisher takes the time to try it, why can't a publisher with 3 nice hardcovers featuring established characters show up?

I thought the very idea of some of these Cons was to actually get people excited about your upcoming product. Dan Didio won't be there to talk about 52 or Countdown, he's going to all about Balckest Night (to use DC as my example).MoonChild wrote:hopefully the silence means they are working hard and keeping everything underwraps because the next thing is what we all hope for NEW BOOKS!
If VEI was actually producing new product, they may want to start giving people an advance look. I think it speaks volumes that they are not showing up at all. Perhaps they don't have anything but the three hardcovers to feature, and if they are not confident to show up and sell even those....well, that concerns me.

It's also odd that they can't even bother updating their own site anymore. There is barely a mention of the last HC.turborip wrote:I thought the very idea of some of these Cons was to actually get people excited about your upcoming product. I'm curious as to what they are doing to make money? They must have some overhead. I can almost guarantee that they made no money off the HC. At $25 a pop they most likely broke even.
So what are they doing to make money? I doubt that with the current state of the economy that banks will lend them any money.
Did they give up? How are they making a living?? Did they get enough operating capital from licencing the rights of Harbinger?

Well, they are advertising for an intern, so I assume that must mean they have something in the works.xodacia81 wrote:Well put. Well they must not be making any money because they are advertising for an intern to work for FREE!
The whole thing seems a little odd when you look at the duties the intern would have:
helping to develop marketing campaigns
recommendations for new comic products
Why does an intern get such important responsibilites and why would anyone who is actually earning a salary listen to someone who is working for free?? I know I wouldn't!
and this ...
"take part in the process of developing comics with the industry's top talent"
Who exactly is this "Top Talent"?

Maybe they are throwing that bit out there to capitalize on the fact that they've worked with Shooter.Crow331 wrote:Well they must not be making any money because they are advertising for an intern to work for FREE!
