So This was in Captain America #50 and I thought you guys might get a kick out of it.

To bad they dont look for talent like that anymore, :D

I wonder if Shooter actually came up with the idea or if marketing did.

I've got that try-out book. It's pretty cool.

If I recall correctly, JayJay Jackson did some of the interior illustrations of little things like typewriters, pens, pencils, markers and stuff like that throughout the book.

You should have her on the show again and ask her about it. :D

I have to wonder if Marvel got some of their New Universe artists from this talent search. After Marvel pulled Shooter's New Universe funding he went with mostly talented, but inexperienced artists, and it wasn't long after this search the New Universe was launched.
It's even entirely possible Shooter had the New Universe in mind if and when he thought up this talent search. :hm:

Reading through this thread again, Bagley did some early New Universe work. He drew Star Brand 10, Nightmask 9 and 10, and Psi-Force 24. This has a pretty cool New Universe angle!

I remember seeing the ad in the comics back in the day. Man, 1985 is almost a quarter of a century ago . . . I feel old.

I think if the publishing companies did more of this kind of thing, it would be GREAT for the future of the industry. Time to bring in some new blood and get the audience INVOLVED. Enough with trips down memory lane to the late 60's and reboots every 5 minutes. New blood, new perspectives.

Too bad they never did put out a finished Spider-Man comic featuring the finished Try-Out Book.
