My first CGC submission with pictures

Post by Neurosis1 »

Well, I'll be off in a few minutes to the post office to mail away my first CGC submission. I'm going to be mailing the following, and here are the grades I hope to get:
Harbinger 1 w/coupon 9.8
Armorines 0 Gold 9.8

These are two of the best comics in my valiant collection, so I'm hoping they do as well as I predict. I suppose we'll see. I'll document the status of the books on this thread. Also, I've included pictures and would appreciate comments from seasoned CGC'ers on what you think these will grade out at. The pictures were scanned through the mylar sleeve in case it makes a difference. I didn't want to handle them to much and chance damage.

Wish me luck,

As whetton's partner/publicist and occasional legal aid I have to warn you not to send them directly to him as 'we' will not be responsible for thier loss....instead you may send them to me :D

Yes, the 4 month wait will be a killer, but I really hope it pays off. I know CGC is tough when they grade, but I've been grading for a long time as well, and believe myself to be a good judge. If these don't come back 9.8's then I don't know what will. Also, at what grade does CGC knock point off for binding defects?
As for the comedic duo of Whet and Dino, I'll need your addresses If I am to be shipping these books to you.:D

yeah,they look like strong 9.8 candidates...but don't be shocked if that Harbinger comes back a 9.4! That is just as hard to pull a 9.8 in as a Solar #10!...I just got books back in the mail today that I sent out on July 12th.They're getting a little faster,but the summer show season is over and the submissions have probably lightened up a bit.If anybody is gonna submit...now's the time to do it! Good luck on those! Joey

The scan on the H1 looks good, but Joey is correct, there's no way to tell from the scan. I'd need to have it in my hands, and I'd probably still be wrong...

The inside pages is what usually kills you on books that look like this. I had that happen on a cuple of EW Golds I sent in. Looked like 10.0's ,but there were a couple of staple holes/tears on the inside pages. Came back as 9.4's.

Got my first CGC subs back today...

Post by Neurosis1 »

I had a suprise waiting for me at the post office. It was my first cgc submission. I was very pleased with one and very disappointed in the other. Here are the results:
<img src="http://www.afreeimagehost.com/upload/11 ... ---9.8.jpg">
<br>
<img src="http://www.afreeimagehost.com/upload/11 ... ---9.0.jpg">

If anyone wants either one, I'm open to offers. It is Christmas after all, and money is always tight. The turn around time wasn't terrible. I really am astounded that the armorines did better than the harb though, because I thought for sure it would be the other way around.

What happened on the Harbinger 1!? :o Did you call and ask for the grader's notes?

I see that's a three-staple harby 1, but I believe there are two staple 1s as well, right?

Nice Armorines. I think Volume 2 Armorines 1-4 in 9.8 would be very cool!

Maybe it's only a two staple harby 1, I can't tell... :?

Ouch on the harby.. it looked real good in the picture :) If you sent them off in mid oct, it seems like a quicker than i've heard of turn around.

good job on the armorines! :)

The harb 1 is a three staple with the coupon. I'm not sure what happenned either. I guess I'll call and find out.

It's not too surprising. The average H1 came off the presses at 9.0-9.2. I'm curious to hear the notes as well, but I'm sure they will talk about spine stuff or faint depressions or something.

The most frequent problem I've seen with the Harbinger 1 is the spine issue. Alot of them either have chips or spine splits.

Called cgc today. Their response:
1 grader gave it 9.2
2 graders gave it 9.0

Small lower corner crease that doesn't break color. Stress marks on spine on the back cover. Honestly, I don't see any of the things mentioned on this book. It just blows my mind how they can see these defects, and I can't. Oh well.
