To get things rolling here's one. We've all seen the Deathmate Prologue White Variant Cardstock cover but a few months ago I picked up a Deathmate Red White Variant on ebay. Unlike the Prologue, this has the whole book inside. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or if it's a printing error. I've never seen another one like it or another Deathmate book that has a white variant.

I've got a Deathmate Prologue White thing, but it's not cardstock, it's somewhere in between the weight of interior pages and and a cover. It's a preview that aparently was given out at pre-release signings. It's got several autographs on it and the interior is nothing but ads for the series.

I also picked up a letter to retailers with some xeroxes of covers and some interior art from Shadowman and a letter thanking the retailer for their continued support.

Odd, but cool!

I remember you winning the retailer pack on ebay, it's a nice set. Where did you get the deathmate from? I've never seen one.

I wrote a letter to Valiant when they started their gold comic thing, saying it was a bad idea catering to speculating retailers, blah, blah.

A week later I got a letter on Voyager letterhead from Paul Fairchild telling me that gold books were actually pretty cool. And to prove it they included an Archer and Armstrong 0.

Which was pretty cool.

Sorry about the crappy pic.

I also had a CGCed Solar 1 that Don Perlin did a Solar sketch and signed on the case in black marker. But I dropped the damn thing and the case is thoroughly cracked.

That letter is pretty cool, do you have a better scan where the text is readable?

The cgc solar sounds great, do you happen to have a scan?

The Deathmate came from an auction (real life, not online) where I picked up a box load of goodies. I didn't even know it was there, I was just getting a stack of commons to fill in holes.

I'll get a scan up as soon as I can, but that may be another day or so....

Best,
Doug

I hope I still have it...it's packed up somewhere. But I wrote in one time during Shooter's tenure about submitting stories. The secretary wrote back (was it Debbie Fix? Can't remember...) and gave me a really nice letter with a full copy of one of the scripts they had used.

I can't even remember which one it was, but I thought it was really cool at the time. I think it was the script to Magnus #1. I will dig through my stuff...I hope I still have it! I'll never forget how cool their response was. I hope I find it, and one day get a chance to have Shooter autograph it.

I ended up submitting a story, but it was a pretty crappy one and I never heard back, so I never submitted again. I wish I had been as good a writer then as I am now...if it had occurred these days, I would submit several things that would be much better. Since they were looking for writers at the time, who knows? They found some good ones in Tony Bedard and others...
