Hey all. I was going to soon be doing an interview with Bob Layton on a broad range of topics at
Sketch Maven and I want to get at least one or two good Valiant-related questions in there.
That said- anyone have something that is an intriguing question for Bob on his time in the early days or his departure at Valiant that he may not have been asked/answered before? I'm curious to see what everyone comes up with.
Thanks
Mike

Ask him if he was consulted on the Iron Man movies!

Last time I talked to him(1994ish) I asked him who the Visitor was.
He wouldn't tell me.

Was Valiant unique or could it happen again?

Actually, Bob Layton was consulted on the Iron Man movies...
so... ask him...

My father spent a 20 year career in the USMC. You can guess what hair styles were allowed under the roof of his house.

Ask him, "How awesome was it to work with the pros from Valiant Entertainment while doing the new stuff for the X-O hardcover?"

Ask, "Why do so many fans love Secret Wars even though it’s not that good?"
Really, I finally added a high grade set to my collection for less than what people usually pay for #8 and it was a complete snooze.
I’m so disappointed.

I would ask a question about fans.
Such as, when you started out has the comic book 'fan' changed.
Did you realize when you entered the industry, how people would react to your name ~ or the work that you did?

You should ask him why Acclaim didn't feel the need to have an editor for the later issues?
I mean, I've read them. I'm almost absolutely sure no one proofed these.

Thanks peeps!
I'm going to ask him about his role on IM2, if there are any "fan fave" projects that he doesn't hold in high regard, and the "is valiant unique" question.
Hopefully Mr. Layton will have some good insights- I'll let you know when it is posted.

Bob Layton is a great guy to talk to, extremely gregarious and well spoken.
Here's a blog post I wrote after meeting him at a convention last year .
He was very giving with his time towards those that I saw at his table.

Thanks for the help and feedback on this. Just so everyone knows, the interview with Bob Layton is now up on Sketch Maven:
http://www.sketchmaven.com/cms.php?&con ... ton_Part_1 . Bob was a great interview & very candid! This first part (part two goes up Tuesday) focuses mostly on Iron Man... he talks about advising Downey/Favreau but also how he's not a huge fan of War Machine.
Hope you enjoy it.
