Acclaim Comics Valiant Heroes softball team shirt - info?
I won this auction yesterday and have not seen this item before. Does anyone have more info on this or have you seen this before? I asked the seller and he said he bought it from a vintage clothing store in San Francisco. I googled and couldn't find anything. The only "Robins" I found is Madeleine E. Robins who was an editor at Acclaim.

If that's a brand of Tees that's been used for individual custom Tees, then I would suspect that that's what it is. Do the worn logos look like they've been added?
Extremely cool in that case. Well, cool either way. Now and then it pays to spend time searching ebay. Congrats.

Once I receive the shirt, I will take a closer look to see if the logo patch on the shoulder looks like it's added at a different time.magnusr wrote:If that's a brand of Tees that's been used for individual custom Tees, then I would suspect that that's what it is. As far as the brand of the shirt, it's by Russell Athletic which does make custom jerseys. I don't know if actual Acclaim Comics employees had a baseball team or maybe Acclaim Comics sponsored a local youth baseball team.

It pays searching used clothes store too!

Found the above old thread started by depluto . . . The pic no longer works, I wonder what it shows. I guess I will have to check my copy of VV #17 later. Seems like the one I won is the 3rd one Bernard was referring to.

the first version were the old bloodshot (green sleeved) jerseys with number printed on the back.
the second version, which is the one sported in the pictures you posted, have everything sewn on a black-pinnstriped cotton jersey.
the third and last was a red-pinnstripped cotton jersey with "acclaim comics" screen-printed on the front.
there was also a valiant cap, which was part of the valiant line of clothes.

I have a first version Bloodshot (green sleeved) given to me still in the bag from Don Perlin. If I had been paying attention, I would have noticed more shirts were made and might have been looking for them as I collect comic t-shirts as well. I have a photo of the Valiant Softball game around here somewhere, I will try and post it. I think it has Joe Quesada and Bob Layton in it among other Valiant folks.iggy101us wrote:http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2519

This 'new' find is a most outstanding find !!!!
There was a photo of the original (green sleeved) team on one of the bulletin board pages, I forget which month. They had a two game series against Wizard.
There were two caps that I know of. The first was very early it was a red cap with the Valiant logo on it and the back was one piece elastic (instead of the more common snaps).
The second was the one that was available through the comics- a black cap with the logo (I think embroidered) in the center, with traditional two piece "one size fits all" snaps in the back. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get your hands on one of those black caps.

I found a "Madeleine E Robins" online earlier today and decided to email her. Below is the email exchange.

This may be a weird question but were you an editor at Acclaim Comics? If so, do you know anything about this Acclaim softball jersey? I am trying to track down the history and wonder if you know. The other Acclaim "Robins" is Clem Robins so I am going to check with him as well.
Thanks,
Iggy
So now we know the origin of this jersey.Madeleine E Robins wrote:Hi, yes, I was an editor at Acclaim for about three years (and yes, I had an Acclaim softball jersey because I was on the team; one of my daughters has it now).
My brother Clem did some art for me in the Classics Illustrated line, but in comics he's better known in the industry for his fine lettering.
That make it all plain?
Best,
Madeleine

Madeleine E Robins -> her daughter -> San Francisco thrift shop -> San Francisco buyer -> San Francisco buyer moves to New York -> sells on eBay to VF member in San Francisco Bay Area -> research to determine jersey belonged to Madeleine E Robins
The game-used softball jersey sure got lots of mileage.
