UPDATE:
So looks like they did an update over night and character creation has been improved. Combat is getting cooler, each new combat skill you choose has a mouse/mouse or mouse/ key combo for special attacks. very cool.
Story: Brainiac/alien invasion: well as all rpgs there are alot of quests. the main story(from the trailer) does carry over early on, mainly involving taking out the brainiac robots in gotham. I started with an archer w/ acrobatics (green arrow) he is lvl 7. Its a lot of fun so far, keep in mind I've only had enough time to play for about 4-6 hours, which isnt much for an MMO.
I also started a second character: Powers ice generation / flight Starting location: Metropolis
Story: Magic crisis, Zatana captured--- First mission
I'll let you know more as I progress. anyone have specific questions about the game? Let me know

I would say 'don't rush a game just to make it available for a holiday'. I tire of getting buggy games.ian_house wrote:It never had a chance for Xmas, I'm surprised it's going to be out for 11th Jan. While I would much rather have a Marvel game of this sort, superheroes are superheroes whether campy or not (I only read Batman on a regular basis but do so religiously and can't wait for Bruce Wayne to get back in the saddle, which has slowed my reading to date).
I see that on my PS3, the Playstation Plus folks are allowed to play the beta for free but I am not going to give the PS3 chumps my money for their online 'perks' as it is the least played system in my house at the moment. But it is nice to know that if I were to want to play this game on a console, I can. I am simply past playing anything on a computer anymore. I REALLY wish that there will be a console version of Diablo III on the horizon. I LOVED LOVED LOVED playing that on my PC back in the day but now I see it as another dungeon crawl.
I like Marvel MUCH better but like I said, superheroes are superheroes and I can see me trolling around Gotham knocking some heads.

Agreed bugs can ruin games with great potential.Knightt wrote:I would say 'don't rush a game just to make it available for a holiday'. I've never been much of a pc gamer. Too expensive to keep up. Consoles keep lasting longer and longer whilst pc gaming is out of date in a matter of months.

So, the game is out today... here is a nice start up trailer:
<object id="vid_4d2c979fdad0bd6056001135" class="ign-videoplayer" width="480" height="270" data="http://media.ign.com/ev/prod/embed.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="movie" value="http://media.ign.com/ev/prod/embed.swf" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><param name="flashvars" value="url=http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/01/11/dc ... /></object>
A MUCH better DC Universe at the artistic hand of Jim Lee. Supes seems to be on a 'I am going to hurt you and there is nothing you will be able to do about it' spree and while the gameplay is looking pretty tight, I can't help but be bummed that this is a MMO. As sporadic as I am with game play, I do not look forward to playing this with any of the online tweeners that are out there. That human interaction is not something that I would sign up for. Another neg on this one (for me) is that fact that you have to 'pay to play'. I do not know how much it costs per month to play but if it is over $7.00 then I can't see me doing it. On the plus side, the game 'cinematics' look great, the prestige edition comes with probably the sweetest statuette of Batman I have seen in a long time and this game here has the potention to save the PS3 from a North American graveyard (IMO). With precious few PS3 exclusives to keep my own system from gathering dust or being the largest blu-ray player in my house, this concept is something that could really play out or on the other hand, take a steaming dump in households all over.
Jim Lee has made the DC Universe cool but will that translate into gaming cool ?
I look forward to seeing how gamers here on the board react to this new game, it's content, story and combat system.

NICE to see you !!!tssgery wrote:It's $199.99 for a lifetime I think...Knightt wrote:Just checked... $14.99 a MONTH to PLAY this game.
$180 a year.
I just can't see me doing that.
Is it free to play on the PS3 or do they charge for that too?
Yes to play on the PS3 it is free, except to play the DC Universe as the new boxes come with 30 days of free online play.

well I had a four day weekend from work and the wife and kids were out of town. So I picked up a copy of the DC Universe, a case of beer, and the number to Dominoes pizza. I was hoping to become a recluse for the weekend and try to kick the crap out of some teenagers.
Well I was kinda disapionted and excited all at the same time. First I am not a gamer just a comic fan, so take my review as that of a comic fan no a gamer.
The game looks great. It was fairly easy for me to pick up on the gameplay. the create a character mode left little to complain about. I am playing with two characters now Doctor Solar and Barack Obama. The only thing I would change is allow us to alter face and body composition beond the three choices.
The bad, the system would kick you off. It would not let you on. I could only play about half the time I wanted. I am assuming that Playstation will fix this some time soon. The kicker was the $14.99 a month just to play. I mean why did I pay for the game. WTF. Anyway there is no offlie play you have to be online just to get in the game. What a rip.
I really enjoy playing the game (when I can get on) but honestly i will probably try to sell it back to gamestop after a the first month of the free preview runs out. I am not cheap i just don't see it holding my interest. untill them if you see Doctor solar or Barack Obama running aroung give me a shout.
