Very interesting...

If only the marketplace weren't so bad, I'd say we were in line for a comics renaissance. But I think the market is just too bad.

I'll keep an eye out for these comics and am looking forward to some of the possibilities it brings but my enthusiasm is heavily dampened by the many returns of comic book universes to lackluster comics that really don't live up to the names they carry.

While I'm not optimistic about this venture, I'm glad they're trying. And if it leads to more Ms. Tree from Max Allan Collins, I'll be very happy about it.

Looks like interesting news, but my favorite titles probably won’t be included as the creators or the actual titles have moved on. Mike Grell is Ardden Entertainment’s Editor-in-Chief, and I don’t see First publishing Sable or Starslayer. Grim Jack has been with IDW for awhile though I haven’t seen much of a commitment to the series which is really too bad. The Dude is self publishing but probably could go back to First if he wanted—maybe Nexus could be First’s flagship title. Still, I would think that DH has the current rights to the classic series.

Like with any publisher, I'm more interested in seeing what titles will be produced before I have a strong feeling either way.

I just read the wikipedia entries for Grimjack and Ms. Tree.
Grimjack seems a little too out there for me.
Ms. Tree looked like something I would enjoy. Maybe someone will publish a good omnibus type collection book.

If anyone has the following Ms. Tree collections for sale, send me a pm.
The Files of Ms. Tree (1984) reprints “I, for an Eye” (Eclipse Magazine #1-6) and “Death Do Us Part” (Ms. Tree's Thrilling Detective Stories #1-3)
The Cold Dish: The Files of Ms. Tree, Volume 2 (1985) reprints "The Cold Dish" (Ms. Tree #4-8)
The Mike Mist Casebook: The Files of Ms. Tree, Volume 3 (1986) reprints "Murder at Mohawk" (Ms. Tree #9)
Ms. Tree (1988, small paperback collection, reprints Ms. Tree #16-23)

I read the early Ms. Trees, and they were awesome. I need to read more of them.

I was/am a big First Comics fan and I've followed characters as they've migrated to other companies.

I absolutely loved the loose connections between titles, especially those made possible by Cynosure in Grimjack.

Hoping for the best...

I'll stay tuned for sure. early Nexus issues were the first (no pun intended) comics that helped me expand past Marvel or DC.

A while back when I was helping one of the LCS's organize back-stock once a week, I dug into about 3 or 4 boxes of nothing but FIRST. Some pretty cool looking books and the series lasted a lot longer than I thought they had. If things work out, the return of First or at least the characters, can only be a plus for a market that has seen DC and Marvel go to hell.

I’ve been looking for other comics since the DCnU announcement, and I never was a Marvel guy.

First might be a nice alternative—heck, collecting First back issues would be a better alternative to what I see out now. I really need to complete my Nexus and Grim Jack runs anyway.

working on Nexus right now, myself. I finally picked up a copy of Nexus Vol.1 #2 (magazine sized issue from Capital) and I'm going to attempt to pick up the other issues of the First Comics run that I'm missing while I go through a reading of the title.

What issues and prices do you want on those? The boxes I went through had a ton of Grim Jack. Not so much Nexus, but Grim Jack and the other titles were there in abundance.

Good luck, the oversized Capital issues can be hard to come by but are definitely worth the hunt—make sure #3 has the 33-RPM record still attached though. :thumb:

Thanks for posting. :thumb:

On Grim Jack I have the Star Slayers and up through #17 of the regular series. I will have to check on Nexus, but I think I have through the mid 40s or more.

I’m definitely looking for a bargain, but my LCS has a nice run of the First comics too. Most are VF or better and I usually pay around 50 cents a book.

Do you think the LCS would be looking to cut a deal?

Got all three of them, actually, now have multiples of all three. Just picked up this lot on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 984wt_1270

one copy #1, two #2's and two #3's, $6.50 shipped. They are mid-grade copies, but I knew that going in. The funny thing is when I finally read #3, I was tempted to remove one of the "flexi-discs" so I could read along with it. I couldn't find the audio anywhere for free online, I guess because Steve Rude is selling an mp3 of it on his website.
