Discuss The DC Relaunch
The DC relaunch is getting closer. I was told yesterday Flashpoint 5, which breaks August 31st, is definately going to be the first appearance of the new universe.
Here's a link to the release dates. Justice League 1 is still scheduled for August 31st.

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
I am getting itchy to see the new 52, but currently it looks as if Flashpoint is being rushed headlong into creating this change that it is affecting the quality of the story itself. Even after re-reading the completed minis and Flashpoint 1-4 I am left wondering if this relaunch was a last second idea and Flashpoint was shoehorned into it. If not the plot for it has certainly been scrambled and makes little to no sense at times.
Another thing that is griping me is that 52 initial titles are being introduced, then the next month 3 more mini series (55 titles now) and 1 more mini-series in November (56 titles) and it has been reported that Batman Incorporated will return in January (57) and who knows what else is lurking in the wings.
Biggest *SQUEE* though is the variant cover issue. Originally it was announced that only 5 titles a month would have variant covers (1:10 ratio) and 1 of those 5 would have a (1:25 ratio). That would be cool with me and my OCD of variants, but beginning in October 3 of those titles will also have a (1:200 ratio variant) WTF?!
And for the first three months Justice League will also come bagged with an digital promo code as well as unbagged. I know, I know skip the variants but my OCD won't let me.
I'll be honest I am jumping on the bandwagon for now and as long as DCBS keeps coming out with their package deals I'll be buying. I plan to give each title 3-4 issues to see how the stories develop as to which titles I continue or not. I feel a majority of these will soon fall by the wayside as did alot of the titles did when DC did the Zero Event. And I hope there is no major crossover for at least a year or so - that way the new continuity can establish itself.
Also someone answer me this. John Constantine is supposedly in the new 52 Universe right? If so then why is his title continuing on in its current numbering and not being restarted? I mean he is in Justice League Dark, so he is in the 52 right?

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
I've posted a couple of times about how excited I am about this relaunch. I'm going to start with 22 of the ongoings and I'm also picking up the 3 miniseries that begin in October: Legion Secret Origins, Huntress, and Batman Odyssey Vol.2.
Swamp Thing and Animal Man are 2 of the titles I'm going to pick up, and I've never read either character's books before (except where they've appeared in other books like 52, JLA, etc.), so I managed to pick up the TPBs of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing and the entire Animal Man series and I'm hoping to read through both to give myself a little extra context on these 2 characters before I receive their new books from DCBS.
Other than that, I'm also just trying to catch up on purchasing/reading the current stuff I've been following (Batman, Batman Inc., Red Robin, LoSH).

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
I can't imagine finding time enough to read 52 comics a month, so I would never consider really getting all 52, though in theory it seems like a cool idea.
Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
Yea, in a world with unlimited time and money that would be cool. I wonder if by December we'll see huge lots on eBay for all 52 titles first 4 issues. I guess THAT depends on the quality. I'll be picking up a few of the titles (Batman ,Action, etc.) to try out for a bit.

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
Here are some quotes from the upcoming new 52.
“Flashpoint effect has definitely closed off time travel.”
“He’s the worst kind of killer. One with no true pattern.”
“What I do, I do for the good of the universe. Something you lost sight of thousands of years ago.”
“You are not the first doctor I’ve known that tried to play god.”
“The only reason I’m here is ’cause if anything happens to you–that would make me the worst former sidekick ever.”

My LCB is having a gathering from ten until midnight when the first issue can be sold. Thought it was a cool idea - even if I don't have a shred of interest.

I've seen it for games, movies, books, and even CD's (anyone remember Use Your Illusion?) but never for a comic book.

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
Just a couple of days left! Anybody going to a midnight event? I asked some people at one of the comic stores in Little Rock if they were going to do anything, and they said they weren't, that most of their regulars hated what DC is doing! I even heard the store owner talking a little trash! He said something about DC's gonna make '80s comics with '90s art, hahahahaha! That's all good, to each their own, but I was a little shocked to actually hear a store-owner say something like that! He also said he wasn't much on Dan DiDio (but who is, huh?), that he met him once and wasn't impressed.
Heck, I'm mostly upset about the fact that I have to wait until the end of the month before I get to read the relaunch books!
